hmmm so they were still serving breakfasts, just not scrambled eggs huh. only reason i could think was maybe they need all their pans for lunch menu items as they can cook fried eggs on the flat grill, poached eggs in a pot, or yeah, maybe the chef went home and left the apprentice there who cant cook scrambled fucking eggs coz he is a chumpaspekt wrote:I was in torquay last summer and we spent ages arguing over where to have breakfast. we finally decided and we started ordering. I ordered a big breakfast with my eggs scrambled and I was told that they didn't do scrambled eggs after 12. It was 12:08. I was too shocked to argue. I am yet to find a suitable explaination for this (other than the scramble chef had gone home).almax wrote:just reading over these posts reminds me how much of a bitch it is to be a breakfast chef.
See when you cook dinners, not many people change the menu, but breakfast....thats personal, every mo'fo wants to change something and its friggin annoying
Anyone got any ideas?
EDIT: that does look fucking tasty.

got hooked on 'the matangi special omelette' when i was staying at matangi island in fiji. fresh eggs from the chicken on the island and spring onions, vegies, heaps of chilli etc. sooooo good! just can't seem to re-create it here.
love the espy all day $10 breakfast too. been down here nearly every weekend for the past few months getting into it. they do a killer bloody mary too!
i'm also a big fan of the home fry up. joe and i go all out on them sometimes and prepare a feast!

All this island and coconut talk has suddenly sprung into my consciousness a dream I had a couple of months ago where i went to an island somewhere and lived in this giant share house hotel thingy that was made entirely thick green palm leaves. The walls, roof, chairs, tables everything was made of these leaves. I turned up with some shopping that was in plastic bags and this hippy couple got angry at me for bringing the bags along and said that to make up for it I had to help chop bananas.
Fukkin weird dream.

I should clarify. I don't mean it was weird as in strange things happen, I actually mean more that it was very vivid, very real. In this sense it was quite unlike normal dreaming.Direktor wrote:When are they not mate?mrj wrote: Fukkin weird dream.

Re: ULTIMATE BREAKFASTS
have no idea in the CBD sorry, only time i am in the CBD before noon is for the walk of shame heheh
however, i have recently found the best breakfast in the whole of melbourne, no shit.
Apte on Heidelberg Rd in alphington. This is on an industrial road and doesnt look much chop from the outside, but its HANDS DOWN THE BEST big breakfast ive had anywhere. its all about everything on the plate being perfection, and the added bonuses of killer hollandaise and spicy chutney.
You heard it from kitty. I need some balance to the dripping-in-gold-dinks that have somehow found it, so go forth and EAT guys.

Re: ULTIMATE BREAKFASTS
I have been for a beautiful but prices breakdast before at langhams hotel on south bank, it's a buffet breakfast style thing but things like eggs are cooked on the spot how you want them. Was def worth it. Did it as a special occasion for my sister.
Haven't been out for breakfast in a long time in the city though so don't really know that many places.
I've been to the mess hall top of bourke near cnr of spring street, was really nice food they have outdoor setting so that could be ok for the pram if you want outside cause theres plenty of room on the footpath there inside defintealy no room for a pram.
Only other places I've been to is down on bridge road but on a saturday most of them are completely packed out.

i drove all the way there from southsiiiide on this recommendation on Sat and while it was OK, it certainly wasnt awesome.
My poached eggs were overcooked (not runny AT ALL )and it was $21 (once you add on the $3 extra for hollandaise)
Maybe it was a different chef, maybe i just got a bad batch, but...
I think there are plenty of just as good if not better breakfasts around town, Yellow bird on Chapel st are always good.
nice courtyard though, then we went rowboating on the Yarra in the sunshine so it was a win overall.
you just gave me high expectations
Re: ULTIMATE BREAKFASTS

al-
Really?
Im sorry, but ive been there twice now and it was the best ever, both times.
I dont eat breakfast southsiiiiide, I only go there for gigs, so maybe there is a higher standard that comes with the higher rental prices?
Last time I was there was maybe 2 and a half months ago, if its changed then they will lose me touting them as awesome, thats for sure. will revisit soon and report back.

Ah dont be sorry, was good to go somewhere different anyway!
higher rental prices southside?
really, can anyone confirm this?
Seems to me to be about the same/same depending on the quality of house/apartment.
I only pay $1800 per month for rent for a 3 bedroom townhouse.

Re: ULTIMATE BREAKFASTS
well when i moved in 3 years ago it was only $1,400 but the landlord has since realised that she can get more so has been increasing it at every chance.
But yeah i dont think there is much difference between north or southside in terms of prices, they only factor in distance from CBD AFAIK

Have to agree with Al on this.. We have been a few times.. Had to ive it a 2nd chance.. Yeah it's pretty damn good, BUT the line is OUT OF CONTROL.. People lining up for an hour plus.. and while the food was good, it wasn;t the BEST ever..almax wrote:WTF kitty!ghetto kitty wrote:have no idea in the CBD sorry, only time i am in the CBD before noon is for the walk of shame heheh
