The Amen Break
He didn't mention
Atari Teenage Riot.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SaFTm2b ... ed&search=
or
Slayer Vs Atari Teenagi Riot, from the Spawn soundtrack.
I've used this break once or more myself.
This dude talks to much.
and he's a wanker
but it's good info.
You really don't have to watch all 18mins to get the gist.

I guess because it's an installation piece.Direktor wrote:Interesting listen, although why it's a video is beyond me.
his website is here http://www.nkhstudio.com/
there's some other pretty cool stuff on there. It's weird listening to someone talk about drum n bass in such a deadpan voice.
There's no justice, just us.

I've corresponded with Nate quite a few times and he seems like a really good bloke. He's also putting together a massive list of all the tracks that have used the amen break to create a data base.

instead he goes into the ethic behind sampling and the politics of copyright and the all holy value of sampling artists and electronic music.
nice work, but why is the self righteous opinions necessary ?
It's like today tonight or the herald sun, why not just have information ?
why does it need to be good or bad, why not just interesting?
just don't think all that preaching is a good thing.
give people the facts and they can make up their own mind.

I think the coryright stuff was possibly the most interesting aspect of the installation. it got me thinking...
dont agree with his description (impression or understanding) of hrvatski and squarepusher though, but music is all personal opinion

croaking lizard... jungletasticdubcorebadness (brap brap)
surface resonance... sound and vibration arts (buzz hum)

Strange that you got that from it. No one else I know took it that way. He really does just lay down quite a bit of relevant information then leave it up to you to decide. He asks / poses questions about the ethics but I dont recall him preaching about anything.
It's supposed to be thought provoking...... and in that respect I think he did it quite well.

Well he covers a lot of different aspects regarding a simple drum loop. I think that's the point... it's gone so far beyond being just a simple sampled loop and into the realm of unconscious pop culture. It was worth going into detail in that respect in my opinion.
I didn't find it preachy personally but it's up to you how you take it I suppose.
