Patchwork feat. The Bamboos and Chief Boima (USA)


Described as the best new deep funk band in the world today, The Bamboos are Australia's premier Deep Funk outfit. Masters of super-heavy, raw and upfront drum-break driven grooves. Led by Guitarist Lance Ferguson (Equatorial Records/Lanu/No Comply), other members include Ben Grayson (Hammond Organ), Danny Farrugia (Drums), Yuri Pavlinov (Bass), Anton Delecca (Sax/Flute) and Ross Irwin (Trumpet). The Bamboos formed in 2001 and released the 7" single 'Eel Oil/Blackfoot', earning them international acclaim from the likes of Snowboy, Mr Scruff, Jazzanova, Patrick Forge and Russ Dewbury. Their next release 'Tighten Up/Voodoo Doll' was picked up by Kenny Dope (Masters At Work) and Keb Darge (Legendary Deep Funk) for their U.S-based imprint Kay-Dee Records.

Born from a Sierra Leonean Father and an American Mother with strong German heritage, Boima spent much of educational years in Spain & Morocco, and brings his culturally diverse experiences to the party. He describes his sound as roots music for the Internet generation. His diverse styles include Hip Hop, Reggae, Soukous, Kwaito, Rai, Baile Funk, Cumbia, Salsa, Disco, Soul and more!!!

Living and performing in different places, Boima has rocked residencies in the Milwaukee, Madison, Madrid and now San Francisco where he lives. He currently holds down one of the rocking-est Saturday night parties in the Bay Area, the famous Little Baobab, which is known world over as the go to spot for African culture and music on the West Coast.

In 2006 he joined Michael Franti and Spearhead on their Yell Fire world tour and played close to 80 shows in Australia, the US, and Europe. Sharing the stage with such artists as The Wailers, Zap Mama, Gohk-Bi System, State Radio, Blue King Brown & Rapper Chosan.
