From theage.com
Graffiti vandals will face up to two years' jail and thousands of dollars in fines under new Victorian laws.
The regulations come into force today, also giving more powers to police to catch offenders.
Police Minister Bob Cameron said graffiti vandals charged under the tough new laws could be imprisoned for up to two years and face a fine of more than $26,000.
The laws will enable police to issue on-the-spot fines of $550 to anyone carrying spray paint cans if they cannot prove the paint is for work-related purposes.
The laws also grant police the power to search individuals over the age of 14 suspected of carrying any graffiti-related implement.
Mr Cameron said he hoped the new laws would act as a deterrent, sending a strong message to graffiti vandals. "If people want to be graffitists, they'll think twice", he said.
Superintendent Kevin Sheridan said police did not make a distinction between artistic graffiti and other forms of graffiti, such as tagging, saying that as far as the police were concerned it all constituted vandalism and was therefore illegal.
The campaign will involve radio advertisements and large public outdoor advertisements.
This is fucked, what if i want to spray an old rocking chair at home, go buy a can of paint, am walking home, cop pulls me up and fines me $550 for not having a work related reason to carry a can of paint.

this is why so many people have been quiet on the streets lately.
when they were talking bout this, they had examples of methods worldwide that have worked, they had people talking about how this was one of melbourne's tourist attractions and shuold be nurtured!
but no, they went with zero tolerance.
the melb city council has brought in the new 'street art permit' system to try to navigate aruond the entire city being a beige buff.
so bigups melbourne city council.
BUT thats all im gonna say bout that

Are these guys for real?
http://www.zero-tag.org/
They were brought to my attention last night when I saw that advertising for the Adidas COPE shoes was forcibly removed under "law" at foot locker by these clowns. Can anyone tell me if they are for real, or if is an elaborate publicity stunt?

These people are BIZZZZZZARRRRRE. I understand (but do not agree with) their aversion to graffiti, but some of the other stuff on there makes no sense and is not explained.ghetto kitty wrote:oh they are fucking serious alright.
you have no idea the amounts of people who take it upon themselves to 'beautify' the world by making it fucknig beige.
GRRR
I wrote them this email this morning:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good Morning,
I do not wish to sound belittling or rude, but is this actually a serious and legitimate organisation? If yes, could you please answer a few questions for me, as your FAQ section is very limited. My questions are:
- What are your reasons for wishing to ban tattooing, fake tanning, paintball skirmish, drawing and face painting?
- Why do you claim that these activities are banned by law, when this is clearly untrue?
- Under what legal grounds have you "ordered" the removal of advertising on the Adidas "Cope" apparel?
- Why do you list "Artistic suppression" as a "key pillar"
These are the main points I am seeking clarification on, though this barely scratches the surface of that which I would like to know about your organization, and I would be most appreciative of a reply.

lolGraffiti, like stealing, is a crime because it steals law-abiding citizens’ right to live in a perfect world.
megalolThere is overwhelming evidence to show that graffiti attracts more graffiti. If it's left on a wall today, then tomorrow it will spread to adjoining properties, school rooms, national monuments, apparel and perhaps even infiltrate the inside of our homes. If given an inch, graffiti could rival the rampant destruction of the meteor that killed the dinosaurs.
wtf!!???If you happen to encounter us during the apprehension of a graffiti artist, you are advised to differentiate yourself by removing any colourful attire on your person.

shit, sorry hardy, seems i was wrong.......heres some more info bout em...
1> apparently zerotag is some kind of subversive ad campaign for new cope2 sneakers.
2> yeah its a marketing stunt
i know it fooled some people though! including writers...
3 > i wonder if adidas were actually involved in the introduction of the new laws specifically so they could capitalize on the backlash????
Wink
i must admit it is pretty confusing that the only two commercials at train stations at the moment are either for cope (king of the 4 line) or the new laws.......
