ROXY MORON
The definition of Oxy moron is putting together words that seem to contradict each other, as in, creative destruction. And Roxy Moron does exactly that with music. Jason came from roots experimenting with the sounds of electro in the European underground dance scene of the mid nineties, and Darren began playing in bands and studio collaborations around Melbourne.
Working as AV technicians in the winter of 2005, Darren and Jason bonded over co axle cable and a love for skanky electro break beats, and the industrial funk of Roxy Moron was born.
From glitchy acid rock, to more world influences, organic sounds and deep dub bass lines. Their tunes ARE an oxy moron, funky rhythms but a bit dark and dirty, unconventional builds and breaks, Left-of-centre tek funk with huge bass and catchy melodies. And, like language, it has many definitions and the context is always changing.
They listen to artists like; M.I.A, Prince, L.T Bukem , Aphex Twin, Primus, Square Pusher, Salmonella Dub, Snog, Mattafix, Freestylers or simply "people who have got their own sound".
In 2006 they unleashed their live stuff together in Australia for the first time, and played gigs from clubs to boats to warehouses, supporting local and international artists like Precision Cuts and Groove Diggerz. Now they have added a live band to the sound and summer of 2008 will be rocking at a club near you soon!
None of them have ever been a DJ but their love of electronica, plus the exploration of pure and twisted sound means they are constantly challenging themselves, joining with live musicians and vocalists, both on and off stage.
ROXY MORON, the live band show that commits civilised warfare on electro, dub and break beat, while fighting for peace. Debut album coming out in 2008.
