Re: T.V
Lol! I think your accent is more Irish than Seppo, Kitty
Saw a freaky docco where they looked at the origin of the North American accent.. this spot in Ireland where everyone sounds like they come from bizzaro USA... did my head in.
I'm currently loving 'around the world in 80 gardens'. Dude hosting it is such a massive nerd and he gets so genuinely excited by the evolution of gardens and their reflection of society and our relationship with nature that I want to invite him over for tea and crumpets.
David Attenborough also on high rotation at the moment. Life of Birds, the earth series etc.

I wanted to be a hero. I wanted to be the center of attention. I wanted the glory, I wanted the fame. I wanted the pretty girls to come up and say, "Hi, I see that you're good at Centipede."

Way to make Australia (Melbourne) look like the backwater arse end of the world....
Add this to the other "Aussie Pride" issues....and we really dont look as tolerant and accepting as most of us would like to think we are.
Whoever at 9 thought that was a good idea to bring that act back should be reemed.

What a load of shit.
There was not one iota of malice or degradation in that skit, it was harmless (but ordinary) fun. The lead in the skit was even an Indian-Australian.
Storm in a teacup, thank God we're not America.

the colours/races displayed in the skit were not intended to portray a political view, merely as comedy. shame to anyone who speaks bad of our great country in a circumstance like this, find your long lost sense of humour and lose the PC bullshit real fast. you're more than welcome to move to the great, free land of the USA and gobble about your misplaced racial issues where someone (albeit an American) will actually take your side and listen.
I believe this shows how comfortable Australians really are with multiculturalism.. we don't need to drift into the same arena as American TV, we can crack a joke and find humour in it, without being at the expense of a racial group..
thank GAWD I'm NART American.

Re: T.V
but i just don't see the humour in it at all.
it's childish, it's distateful and it's out of place in today's society.
it's clearly poking fun. i wouldn't go so far as to call it racist, but seriously, minstrels haven't been about since the 1800s. that's what it looks like to me. i suppose it's essentially a joke about michael jackson's whiteness...but it doesn't really come across like that imo.
i'd like to know what some aborigines thought of it. i just think it shows a level of ignorance that's pretty shameful tbh.
i thought we'd moved on from this mindset and this feels like a massive step back in what australia already significantly lacks in terms of race relations. it says absolutely nothing about multiculturalism, that's like saying someone imitating an asian person would be embracing multiculturalism.

The majority of the performing group was Indian - so where the racial intent comes from I don't know.
I think the main reason it's been shit bagged is because of Harry's response which was miscontrued response because of how he perceived the act was and not what it actually was
which was a tribute to the Jacksons.
If anything - the only poor taste element is that it's so soon after MJ's death.

Celebrity Master Chef is failing for me. 3 on 3 is lame.
I think Michelle should take the fat judges and put them through the paces of Biggest Loser.

How about the Andrew Symonds 'monkey' incident?Feigan wrote:The majority of the performing group was Indian - so where the racial intent comes from I don't know.
Racism is not just white versus dark.
Indians can and have been racist towards African Americans too.

My point was based on this article that I read earlier today - http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/stor ... 22,00.htmlcalstro wrote:How about the Andrew Symonds 'monkey' incident?Feigan wrote:The majority of the performing group was Indian - so where the racial intent comes from I don't know.

The group is of a multicultural background, not just an Indian lead.
sorry if I confused Calstro
If anything out of Red Faces was offensive last night - it was the guy who did the beat box burp performance. That was horrid
Re: T.V
That's easy for you to say coming from a fairly multicultural city with many different people from different backgrounds all getting along etc etc... Not everyone has been so fortunate...bonsai wrote:could not agree more. anyone who sees this is as being racist light needs to wake the fuck up, seriously.Direkt wrote:What a load of shit.

'Misplaced racial issues' huh? The skit hardly needed blackface to be funny.
Us Americans are glad your not one of us either mate.
Re: T.V
Skit was dumb. Surely we're all on the same page.
Why the fuck anyone would bother to defend Hey Hy is beyond me, and makes re-think how unAustralian I am.

On a cereal not, I think doubling you chances of playing the game would supercede the odds of being picked and hopefully taking home more money.
I'm not sure if I'm TV material.
