OK Civ 5... feels too simplistic. The game boils down to fewer aspects than the others in the series. No espionage (WTF), no religion (which, frankly, should have been expanded and tweaked instead of removed). The city management aspect of the game feels heaps more fiddly and requires shitloads more micro to make the most out of your resources. I dislike using gold to buy everything - cheapens the strategy behind the game. I found myself putting up heaps and heaps of Trading Posts (particularly on Jungle, where they get a +2 science bonus eventually) and then spamming Banks and Markets + mo money = quick buying of fuckin everything.

Combat is HEAPS better though. The hex grid and lack of unit stacking makes for heaps more tactical maneuvering. If your unit is stronger than another unit it WILL beat it (no more caravel vs battleship upset bullshit here).

It's a shame because I thought they almost got the balance perfect with Civ 4. If they had implemented the hex grid and combat system into Civ 4 and upgraded the graphics I would have been well chuffed. Unfortunately I'm not completely convinced. The game is still fun but... not as much as it could be.

7 food out of 10 from me.

Yeah, after nearly playing through one game I actually got a little bored.

I still don't really miss religion, but no espionage is a bit weird.

It definitely feels a little stripped back. Hopefully they release some new game mechanics in dlc or something...

sounds like they need an equivalent of a beyond the sword upgrade - perhaps part of a tactical sales plan?

More on Civ 5. Its started to grow on me but only because im an ultra-warlike aggressive player. The AI doesnt really know how to lay seige to cities which is my only new gripe. City-states are mildly overpowered, especially Maritime ones with their food bonus. Become allies with two of those and you never need to worry about feeding your cities and can concentrate on units, gold and science production.

They really need to rethink each civs abiliies. Seriously, the Ottomans get a 25% chance to capture Barbarian sea units on defeat? WTF

Damn... finished BC2. Behind 'God of War III' it's the next best game I've had the pleasure of playing on PS3.

Just a shame it all ended so soon.

There's a virus on my server :(

it's a BSD (Unix) machine running mac share and windows share (SaMBa) programs... I haven't run anti virus for aaages as there are no longer any windows machines in the house. Funny coz it looks like a windows virus, it's been dumping .exe files all over the place (usually with the same name as the folder they are in)... for example.. Server>files>pics>pics.exe

almost every folder has this problem. Hmmm, I think it came from somebody's lappy or something. Anyway, does anyone know if a mac anti-virus (like avast) will fix this?? or will it only work locally? or will I need a windows machine to fix it? fecking annoying... disgust

HELP!

I have a Maxtor 500Gb hard drive which has all of my music, movies, photo files on.

It's not working and I have gig tomorrow for most of the day at an outdoor event and I need to get access - mind you, I'd really like to not lose all of my music too!

It fires up when the power is plugged in, it flashes once with the light and you can hear the fan starting up and something working inside and then it just stops.

have tried two different power cables and two different USB cables and nothing has changed.

anyone experienced anything similar and can maybe shed some light on this for me?

pull the drive out and stick it into another enclosure. if it still does not work you might be in trouble.

as long as the hard drive itself is not making any strange scraping noises etc you could use a tool to try and fix. but firstly, go get another enclosure ($10-$20 max) and try that out.

I'd just like to say Black Ops is rubbish. Overhyped and riding on the success of MW2 in my opinion. Multiplayer has some cool new features but that's it. It's still entertaining but not nearly as good as MW2..

I really like Black Ops. Single player is rad with a cool story, and multi is a massive improvement on MW2.

i've been smashing a couple of games on the wii recently:
  • epic mickey
  • sonic: colours
  • nba jam
  • donkey kong country returns
  • golden eye 007
golden eye 007 in particular is just awesome. such a good remake, although it's a bit weird having daniel craig replacing pierce brosnan and the locations being changed too. that and having deadmau5 smashing up a club dance floor in one scene.
