I can see where you're coming from. Let me explain it a bit more. Basically the mod process goes something like this: If Karl or I think it's unacceptable, then we'll remove it. If we think it's questionable, then we'll have a chat about and come to a decision together.

I understand that this doesn't really answer your question. I am hesitant to create a well defined set of rules (for a few reasons), but I suppose there is a rule of thumb you can follow:

If I see something and think to myself: "someone's boss will be pissed off if they walk past and see that on their employees screen", then I'll remove it. A lot of people here have jobs in very corporate environments and we would like to keep Melbourne Beats as "work safe" as possible so that no one gets any unexpected surprises.

Don't you find it strange though, that even though ITM is a totaly commercial site, and you guys are not (which is great), you guys have a lot less tolerance for anything that is even remotely risque.
Why is that?

Personaly, I see no harm in something as harmless as the above pics, but that's my opinion.
It's your site. You uploaded the forum template up onto the net, so I guess you get to say what go's.

I do find it strange that you mention that. I always thought ITM was fairly strict about that sort of thing. I don't doubt what you're saying though. I guess I only ever used to hang out in the Melbourne forum. Having said that I do recall the General forum being a bit out of control at times. Does that Naoki guy still post there?

Anyway, getting back to the point. I think that just because we don't have paying advertisers to satisfy on mb.c doesn't necessarily mean we should let people to post whatever they like.

What's really important from our point of view (in addition to the work-safe issue) is that we are as welcoming an open as possible. Especially in terms of the boy/girl ratio. I've had a few girls give positive feedback about our position on risque content so I view our stance on the issue as being a fairly positive thing for the community.

We've avoided being specific about rules/guidelines on purpose because imposing strict guidelines doesn't do great things in terms of promoting discussion and participation and letting the community evolve and all that. So occasionally we pull back the reigns a bit but we tend to stop short of drawing a line in the sand.

Anyway. I'm glad you asked these questions because it's good to know what people are thinking and good to be able to clarify our position on these issues. As always, feedback is appreciated. Positive or negative.

(Sorry for the length this post, I'm not so eloquent at the best of times).

I suppose there is merit in that statement.

But, given the choice between: 1) Having all our users browse this forum freely, at any time they want. Or, 2) Having a lesser number of users able to browse this forum whenver they want... option 1 wins for me.

But, it's not just about being work-safe. My previous post clarifies our position a bit more.
