As long as you didn't get extradited, you would face more lenient punishment here and you would 'prove' Schapelle's innocence.

Links, please SWM? I've been avoiding the 'Schappelle Show' so far, but you've got me curious now. I love a mystery.SoulWhiteMan wrote:And another thing...Ron Bakhir...what the fuck is his motivation to bankroll an entire defence for someone??? Another thing that has got me scratching my head heaps, why were the two QC's offered for her defence turned away????????
And now it's time for Hegg's inevitable rant. Here I go again...
I must say, with all the highly sophisticated smuggling that goes on around the world every day, the story of some bogan stashing a few kilos in a bodyboard bag seemed a bit trivial.
What so many people forget is that drugs is a multi-trillion dollar industry, up there with oil and weapons. You can't run an industry like that without big banks and corporations to launder your money, without governments, military and intelligence to provide support, or without mainstream media to cover it up by focussing on the 'social disease' angle, for example (Eden and Rory, this is what I was trying to explain the other week). If you stopped the drug trade overnight it would be like dropping a nuclear bomb on Wall Street. The whole world's economy is hooked on drug money.
This is why it's always the recreational drug users and small time dealers that get busted while the industry grows stronger every year. This is why Afghanistan went from producing almost no opium in 2001 to producing more than ever in 2004, right under the nose of U.S. forces. Drug money makes the corporate world go round. Bush knows it, the Clintons know it. And they're absolutely fine with it, so long as the money keeps rolling in.
There is no War on Drugs and there never was.
Thank you and goodnight.

If you ask me, I think that this is a deliberate attempt to polarise the Indonesian continent for a neo colonial attack in the upcoming FTA....
You're right, one fucking unimportant bogan from fucking queensland gets all this media stir.....there are 47 Australians languishing in prison all over Asia on drugs charges they claim to know nothing about....by odds some of them would have to be attractive, yet this person is turned into a demi god?????
And a million bucks is not enough for someone to "rat" on the culprit.... c'mon, if you were an airport worker, or small to intermediate drug dealer, like fuck you wouldn't take the money and run....
my personal conclusion: it was her, or her brother....and after all this shit is over she will admit the truth....
wonder if her jail will be bombed by some bogans then?????
couldn't help but notice that the mad rush of support for ms corby has dramtically slowed. hmmmmmmmm...... the sudden rush of blood seems to have calmed itself and everyone has realised they were pimped by the media puppetmasters, perhaps?
I guess there will b something else that absolutely cannot be tolerated next week.......... didn't take long to forget huh? guess it wasn't that important after all?

Yeah, been hearing a bit about Chika Honda lately. It serves as a great point to those pointing fingers and talking about corrupt and unfair justice in Indonesia when from what I've heard about this case judicial justice seems like more of a stretch in our own backyard.sneaky hands wrote:anyone see this?

Isn't it funny that most of us haven't heard a thing about it yet it was absolutely massive in Japans media.
Disturbing.....
I guess the difference being we don't execute people for shipping 13kg's of heroin. but rather another country would give it a go for less than a kilo of marijuana.Guyno wrote:Yeah, been hearing a bit about Chika Honda lately. I don't know how any person can pass any judgement on anything that has happened in relation to this case.
What are we basing our opinions on? Media coverage?
This has to be one of the most confusing, intricate, crazy things I have ever seen.
The truth is in there somewhere, but it was buried under a pile of media, popular opinion, and pure bullshit a long time ago (those things are not mutually exclusive).
I just simply can't form an opinion about it because I simply don't see a sinlge anchor in reality or fact.

Allan Kholer in the Age writes:
"RBA meets to decide rates rise"
The board of the reserve bank will meet today in Sydney to consider a change in the overnight cash rate. Most financial pundits expect the board to leave rates on hold. In a written statement, RBA governor Ian Mcfarlane said that factors which would affect the boards decision included the recent blowout of the current account deficit, a slump in retail sales for the march quarter and 'any other points Schappell (sic) thought would be relevant'. It is believed that Ms Corby will be teleconferencing into the board meeting from her Bali jail cell.
ANZ chief economist Saul Eslake said last night: "We are confident that Schappell will move for a steady cash rate in the face of lower than expected inflation growth and a stable crude oil price". The RBA last increased rates in March by one quarter of a percent.
Len Johnson also in the Age:
"I wasn't Drunk, vows Matthews"
In a shock announcement, Brisbane Lions coach Lee Matthews has told baffled reporters that he would be dropping star mid-fielder Jason Akamanes for Saturday's clash with Carlton in favour of the recently signed rookie Schappelle Corby. Matthews announcement comes after the Lion's decisively beat Freemantle last Friday night. A reflective Akemanes who recently suffered a form slump told reporters: "I think it's time Schappelle had a run. I'm confident of being back on deck next week".
Matthews made the announcement during a press conference outside the club's Gabba training room and rejected claims raised by some commentators regarding his own sobriety at the time of the decision. The Lion's coach also dismissed concerns over Ms Corby's lack of experience and the fact that she was likely to remain incarcerated in her Bali prison cell for the duration of the Saturday afternoon match to be played at Melbourne's Telstra Dome. An exasperated Matthews said: "Look, I know Schappel hasn't got as many matches under her belt as Jason (Akemanas) but we need to giver her a chance. I mean for f__ks sake, we gave Daryl White a run didn't we?". Carlton coach Dennis Pagan is reported to be concerned with the Lion's new tactic and is rumoured to be re-considering his mid-field placings. A close friend told reporters "Dennis is a bit uneasy. Last I heard he was talking about bringing John Elliot into the side."
Schappelle Corby is serving 20 years in a Bali jail after being convicted by an Indonesian court of importing Marijuana. In other news Daryl White is still at large after a spate of armed robberies in Brisbane's outer Western suburbs.
And Trevor Sykes in the Fin Review:
"BHP looks to Corby to secure WMC control"
BHP has appealed to minority shareholders of WMC to accept it's $7.85 per share takeover offer. At yesterday's close of trading BHP had secured over 72% of WMC scrip. BHP needs 90% control in order to compulsoraly acquire the company. In a late announcment, BHP CEO Chip Goodyear told investors that the board was confident of securing the remaining 18% in Australia's largest copper producer. Goodyear pointed out that although some 'irrational' retail investors were unlikely to accept BHPs offer, he was hopeful that hedge funds, who reportedly hold up to 22% of WMC, were likely to respond well to a sell recommendation from convicted Marijuana smuggler Schappelle Corby. Corby through her lawyers, last night maintained a hold rating on WMC despite the stock trading at well below BHP's $7.85 offer price.
BHP is reportedly in talks with Corby and hedge funds to secure up to 15% of WMC which, when combined with it's 4.64% economic interest in the company held through an equity swap arrangement with Deutsche Bank AG would take it over the 90% hurdle. Corby is rumoured to be undecided over the takeover and has told fellow inmates in the Bali prison that BHPs offer price was "a bit skinny given the recent rally in Copper prices". BHP's unconditional offer will close on the 17th of June.

The bitch did it.
Let her rot for being so stupid.
If you wanna hate Indonesia for their legal system, think of the various states in the US that have laws such as "Posession - 20 years" "Selling - LIFE"
So if you're found with a spliff then it's 20 years, no questions asked.
I believe Nevada is one of these states, but I could be wrong.

the fact is that bashir was never found guilty of the bali bombings. this is an example of australian media brainwashing. they found him guilty of a much lesser charge.Fents wrote:Abu Bakishire (sp?) the bali bomber is free?
he had a good lawyer and they got him off the charge.
corby's lawyer wasnt as good, the case for innocence they presented was shit, and 20 years is a light sentence anyways. shes lucky not to be on death row.
comparing the sentence of someone "accused" of something but never found guilty with the sentence of someone found guilty is inappropriate and misleading.

I didn't think it was so much the quality of his representation but more so the fact that the initial charges were based on restrospective laws which under Indon constitution is illegal. Hence the technicality.
But I could be wrong... not like I actually studied the case or anything.

These are the facts that the media omitted when they were discussing the Corby case and comparing it unfairly to the Bali Bombing.

to reiterate a key fact:
http://www.theage.com.au/news/Editorial ... 95525.htmlThe Age's Editorial Opinion wrote:Much of the confusion surrounding the Corby case has focused on the differences between the Australian and Indonesian criminal justice systems.
Criminal proceedings in Indonesia require the prosecution to prove a prima facie case to overcome a statutory presumption of innocence favouring the accused. The defence can introduce evidence to rebut the prosecution's case.
Yet Corby's legal team advanced little material of persuasive value. It failed to vigorously pursue the biggest flaw in the prosecution case - the lack of fingerprint or other forensic evidence linking Corby to the drugs. Instead much weight was placed on the hearsay evidence of a Victorian remand inmate, John Patrick Ford, who testified that he overheard fellow prisoners saying an Australian-based drugs ring placed the package in her luggage. The defence team went on to introduce a range of other material of limited evidentiary value. Based on the evidence before it, the Balinese court had little choice but to convict. This is not the end; an appeals process remains.
