Good Idea Nat.....gnat wrote:agree that agents are so slack. i've had TWO inspections in 5 years and she called me the day before and said she wanted to come with the owner. i allowed it but technically i'm supposed to get 14 days notice. the next time she came and said ummm how long has there been that crack across the upstairs bathroom roof? lol- who knows lady but seeing as it gets up to 45 degrees up there is summer it's not surprising you think
they don't give a shit. my last agents would at least respond to your queries
i used to call with requests and fax them and they always claimed they never received them so i got wise and started emailing her things and printing off my sent email and keep a folder of communications. i've reported heaps of stuff and never heard anything back and i know they'll try to hold bond when i go. then i'll bring out my folder and my diary of dates and times i contacted them and not heard anything back
keep notes on everything. VCAT loves that shit
I sent my notice letter off - and stated why we were leaving in it - pretty clear about it as well, i then get an email from the agent saying the agent has asked me why you have chosen to leave - ummmm read the freakin letter i sent it is ALL in there! - it jsut goes to highlight why we are leaving YOU ARE SHIT!

Re: Gripe thread
no babe, he just cant get the usual 1 year extension that would then allow him to be here permanently after that.
they changed the laws a couple months ago, so you cant duck to NZ for a week or two and come back.
he would have had to do 3 months WOOfing and now has no time to do it...
he wants to live here forever so doesnt want to do anything that will mean he cant come back later.
so its 2 years back in Scotland till he can return x 1000000

Re: Gripe thread
yeah the woofing thing, if we could get a famrer to say he worked there voluntarily then it would be okay, but they have to have legit buisness etc etc
looking at performers visa now - he does sound engineering, but needs a qualification and doesnt have one.
needs industry experience - has.
also needs $3k to apply - we can do that.
but cant fudge qualification!
I cant even marry him, too tricky to prove as we havent been on any trips together etc and we havent lived together long enough.
it just seems fucked, here is a fantastic guy who has been working and paying tax, who wants to live here and build as life here, not some tourist overstaying his welcome and working for cash, and they wont let him stay.
im totally gutted. hes like my brother. one of many. but still.

Re: Gripe thread
He has to leave by July 10th, 2 weeks. Been waiting 3 months to hear back from them - the time he could have been WOOFing and making himself legally able to stay!
Re: Gripe thread
I have freinds from the UK who aren't skilled (IE models, and peole who work in hospo) who have had their visa's extended multiple times.... hmmmm

Re: Gripe thread
howhowhow
he works in hospo, owned his own pub in Edinburgh and works at Libertine now, also works at a recording studio...
he has family here, but was on a student visa to begin with....quit school as it was $9k a term and he is getting so much work doing sound stuff he doesnt really need it, as they arent teaching him anything hes not learning through the work hes doing..
im asking everyone i know if there is a way out of this.

Re: Gripe thread
GK, point him in the direction of this British expat forum. Even just a browse through should give him an idea of whether there there is a (legit) way. Very very solid advice (at least there is in the US section.) Be warned - they will not kiss your arse and don't even bother asking about anything shifty (heavily modded to all be legal.)
Even if he doesn't find a way, it might give some perspective that the 2 year home residence isn't really the end of the world. Good luck!

that f'ing sucks GK I am really sorry. My man had his visa revoked 3 months early and got booted out of the country - it is so unbelievably frustrating when you have your freedom of movement restricted by random, artificial barriers like this. Hope things work out.ghetto kitty wrote:He has to leave by July 10th, 2 weeks. Re: Gripe thread
thanks for the tip Retzie...and the love ladies.....
We are all gutted, he is so part of the family, and just really loves it here. Best random housemate from gumtree EVER!
But i think he has been over all the options with his lawyer and there doesnt seem to be a way for him right now with the current laws. Six weeks ago another friend did the skip to KL and renew thing, but it has changed in that time, so quickly!

GOTD: The worst Heartburn in the history on mankind is going on inside my chest right now!
Re: Gripe thread
GOTD: Fred Basset.
Why does this comic strip exist???????
(Footnote: not an existential question, but one that plagued me all weekend. The best answer I've received so far is 'to make the other comic strips seem funnier'... but this argument would suggest that in the presence of Fred Bassett, that Andy Capp and/or Garfield become (relatively speaking) funnier, and I can't find any evidence that this is actually true)

I wanted to be a hero. I wanted to be the center of attention. I wanted the glory, I wanted the fame. I wanted the pretty girls to come up and say, "Hi, I see that you're good at Centipede."
Re: Gripe thread
So I looked up Fred Basset in Wikipedia. I've decided that the paragraph below is wiki-speak for 'a comic that is shit':
The nature and intention of the Fred Basset strip can best be understood by reading several strips together, as in the Annuals. Read singly, the strips can seem too abstract by themselves. The comments made about Fred Basset cartoons on various media indicate that Fred is not always understood. Some strips are merely a surreal or whimsical description of a moment of life as seen from a dog's point of view. As very British cartoon strips, they break the normal strip rules by sometimes not having a traditional ending, a punchline or even a distinct purpose, distinguishing them from the more direct, American-style Garfield or Peanuts strips.
