Are you saying some ego-driven munt-head writing his 'tag' in texta is the equivalent of a thought-provoking, original and artistic piece that may convey a certain socio-political message? If so, I strongly disagree mate.nic wrote:People delineating between tags and graffiti are mislead, they are basically the same thing but with different purposes - one is laboured and deliberate in a single place the other is a quick gesture spread out over a large area.
"Impressive" is a pretty vague and subjective term IMO. In this regard, even if you don't rate what 70K do (I.e. no artistic merit - just general bombardment and risk taking) you can still find it impressive - sure. But that's hardly my focus - if that's what you look for and rate, then cool - more power to you.nic wrote: Tagging can be impressive in its spread and sheer volume. You cant say you aren't impressed in some respect by the huge number of tags put up by 70K etc around Melbourne and the trouble they have gone to to get them up in high and dangerous places.
What I find impressive is artistic ability, flair and originality (Eg. I love Reka's stuff - different shapes and colours forming cool pic's and scenes). Or something that conveys a message and/or provokes thought.
Each to his own I guess.
