Hey all..
I'm heading off to the UK for a couple of months towards the end of the year to stay with my bro who's working there ...
Anyone got any places etc they recommend that I visit while I'm there ??
Thought this might be a good spot to swap travel stories etc (Unless there's already a thread like this ?)
I can tell you anything about Japan if anyones interested in going or working there ?

They'll give you a good idea of what to expect!
I lived in Nagoya, Osaka, Hokkaido, Sapporo and a few small country towns here and there..
Didn't spend a huge amount of time in Tokyo so hopefully your mate is pretty clued up about there..
Does your mate speak Japanese ? (It really helps)
What sort of stuff do you wanna know ?
Nightlife, Clubs ?? Temples & stuf ?? (There's a shitload of them, you get over them after you've seen a few, at least I did anyway, so I'd try and limit it to 5-10 Big ones, you get the idea after that, There are a few good ones in Tokyo)

It was pretty freaky going over there by myself
I was an english teacher too ! I taught kids (3yo - 15yo). Pretty cool experience. Japanese kids are wicked!
I studied it a h.s for 4 years (forgot alot of it by the time i went there). I was almost fluent when I left. Spent alot of time in pubs etc with the old dictionary & picked up heaps (Make sure u take one of these, Both Jap 2 english and vise versa) !!
Do you wanna travel around Japan ? My cousin just came back and he told me about a railpass for the shinkansen (bullet train) which sounded pretty sweet & saves u a bit! (It's available from the Japan Travel Bureau in the city) I'll get the details for u .

camden palace is no more! closed down to make way for another pants club. camden is a great place though. could wander round the markets all day. i'll just say that if you're on a budget then go to the food stalls under the main market thing at the end of the day for a really cheap and tasty meal for about 2squid.
i really loved london and wish i could have been able to afford to live and work there for a bit, but it really is rediculously expensive. if you want to employ a tour guide my hand is up.

I really loved London too! i like the fast paced city. I was there for almost two weeks. Its a big big city with so much to offer. London itself will take u at least a week to see.
I enjoyed walking around more and getting lost in the city and when u do get lost u will find some excellent restaurants cafes record shops.
Make sure u do all the touristy things St Pauls Cathedral (got sum MAD photos from the top, 400 steps to climb up though) Picadilly Circus etc. Oxford St has all the major fashion shops very busy indeed! Im sure ur brother will show u around. Ask him to take u to the markets which are situated outside of the city. Camden Market???
If u get a chance go to Brighton for a day
And clubs well pick up a copy of Time Out, it lists most big clubs in London. While i was there i went to Fabric on Friday night which is breaks hip hop and drum and bass, got to see Jazzy Jeff, Scratch Perverts, Grooverider, Andy C, Dillinja. While Saturday is tekno galore that features big internationals but a very different crowd from Friday. U will find that there is so much on and will be having a hard time trying to decide what to do

London will almost certainly have anything you want, and the best of it. It will also have a whole heap of shit that you don't want, and won't ever want to see again once you've gone.
the above touristy suggestions are good ones, especially if you only have a limited amount of time, the only glaring ommission I can see is all the wicked art gallery's which are probably the highlight of the whole city for me - Tate (modern and Britain), V&A, National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery etc etc all have mind blowing collections / pieces.
For travel outside the UK, definately check out Budapest and Vienna (only a 4 hour cheap train ride apart from each other), the first for some amazing history the second for beauty that shits all over Paris.
oh, and Amsterdam if you're the smoking type, and Berlin which is one of the coolest places I've been.
a tip too, when visiting the end, take some ear plugs, it took about four days until the ringing was gone after last friday night...
if your bro aint into the beats drop me a PM and I'll happily escort you to Fabric or The end or some other night, of which there are plenty...
