why would you want to get rid of an already successful brand name.
Whilst to us DJ's, Technics are indeed a successful brand name - to their parent company they're not that big in terms of both their percentage of sales within their own company, or even their market share in the DJ retail world.
Still.... makes you wonder what benefit this will have for the old Techincs products.
it's not about replacing technics with panasonic. it's about replacing national and matsushita and all those other brands with panasonic. technics is another, small, part of that, and it won't make any difference to them: in fact, they'll probably get more profit just by replacing national with panasonic, since it's better perceived.

I read that as you saying they're not replacing Technics with Panasonic.
They're replacing all brand names under the Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. umbrella with Panasonic. This includes Technics.
But, I think I just misinterpreted what you wrote.
does it specifically say they're actually going to piss off the 'technics' name?
doubt they would kill off a popular brand which is of such a high profile and well respected in what is a large market. EVERYONE uses techincs.. from clubs to librarys to studios to radio stations to galleries to student unions, etc.
good branding is a powerful thing which is very difficult to establish and maintain... panasonic would realise this
