depends on the size of the sensor. if you have the same size sensor, 5mp will be a hell of a lot worse than 2mp because you're really just generating noise (for smaller sensors, anyway). there's a physical limit.deviant wrote:makes sense, although it also says that a full frame (35mm) sensor is best and capable of 96MP
I guess it's mainly talking about conpacts
this thread has comments that echo this, the industry is obsessed with MP count. I know that people always ask when they see my Dslr "how many megapixels is that?" which is kind of irrelevant..... my old canon ixus 3.2pm takes fantastic shots too

here is the review of the lens that I bought if anyone is interested in a kit lens upgrade for their 400/350D that is good and actually affordable.
the canon options are..
17-85 F4-5.6 USM IS (affordable, but not very good nor fast)
17-55 F2.8 USM IS (mega awesome but waaaay too exxy)
I just bought this, and it is very good, and very bright/fast
Tamron 17-50 F2.8
Best

you forgot the 17-55 f/3.5 IS (i.e. kit lens + IS). it's really quite nice: they fixed all the issues with CA and it's a bit sharper as well. well pleased with it, aside from the rubbish construction (rumoured to be the 450D kit lens, and built like one).deviant wrote:here is the review of the lens that I bought if anyone is interested in a kit lens upgrade for their 400/350D that is good and actually affordable.

yeah, that'll learn me for being lazy.deviant wrote:you mean the 18-55 f3.5-5.6 IS
hm, i haven't manage to smash even my 50mm f/1.8 yet, despite it being the most rubbish construction ever. surprised that the kit lens broke, but know nuff people who've wrecked the 50mm.deviant wrote:plastic construction = fail
my kit lens is pretty much broken and my 50mm 1.8 broke last weekend......
rubbish
I won't buy another plastic lens

This website is a little bare at the moment but I've heard nothing but good reports about them on flickr and overclockers.com.au:deviant wrote:what is the best place for camera and camera gear servicing and repairs?
Camera Clinic. They're in Collingwood.
I believe the 1D is meant/used for photojournalism/sports photography etc etc and the 1DS is a studio camera.nhd wrote:Hello fellow camera geeks!
Can someone tell me the difference between say a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and a 1DS Mark III
so basically, 1DS and 1D, thats the dang difference?
Also i cant believe the 1DS Mark II has been out since 04 !
Apparently the 5D Mark II is due soon, anyone confirm?
The 5D mkII should be getting rolled out very soon. Also they are releasing a 450D soon.

i bought a bag for my camera today, as ya do. anyways, i couldn't believe the difference in prices between stores on Elizabeth Street. Handy though, competition an all.
Got one for $30 (in Ted's > best!), that was $40 in another store. Checked out the crumpler ones, my god! As if i am paying $50 for a camera bag. hell no. I went passed the Crumpler store afterwards and checked the same bag that was $50 in the camera stores and in there it was $65

you can't really go wrong tbh.... not these days, most new consumer point and shoots are pretty good. I think those two brands take the best pics (from what I've seen)
The model will depend on budget, decide how much you want to spend, go with something about that price. I wouldn't go with the really exxy ones (even if I had the money), personally I think middle of the road is best. High-end point n shoots are waaay too full of gimmicks and large pixel counts for my liking.

This is a sale of a Canon EOS 5 w/ Vertial Grip & Tonika 28-210mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens!
Quoted as the best 35mm SLR camera on the Canon line!
This was bought 12 months ago from Michael's in Melbourne. Michael's do a great job at refurbishing cameras and this is no exception. If it weren't second hand, I would say it was good as new. It runs and handles like a new SLR.
This is as professional as you are ever going to get bar a MK1 for 35mm SLR.
The Tonkia lens is in great condition. The glass is spotless and there is no mold in the barrel. It has MF & AF settings and takes a crisp clear shot.
