Hey guys...
well a long year ago me and citizen.com had a pow wow over lunch, and as both of us are ever optimistic and probably way too enthusiastic for our own good, we came up with the idea for Bass Camp @ Lounge.
The original mission statement read like this >
and a year later, Im pretty proud that we have done just that, while mixing a bit of electro/tek in to keep the Lounge randoms on the dancefloor all night long. hehehebo and chris on too much coffee wrote: Every Thursday night, come join us @ Lounge for a rotating showcase of ALL your favourite DJ's and party rockers together, under one roof, at last. With the combined forces of 'Rock Like this', 'Got Funk?', 'Hot Wax' gals, 'Darkbeat', 'Lazy Dayz Sound', 'Soft Spot' and 'Breakdown' crews with many more special guests planned for the year to come.
For the cadets >>
This night in no means an attempt to take over the breaks 'scene' in Melbourne, or replace/compete with any of the quality nights running infrequently, or even an attempt to capture what has been done with previous nights such as Fractured/Crossfade/gimme a break, but merely an attempt to bring some solidarity back to the Melbourne Breaks scene by providing it with a 'base' in which to push the particular brand of music at a new level, to a new audience.
The night will be hosted by yours truly (Citizen.com) and draw on the many crews around town that are both pushing these sounds and regularly stepping beyond their own genre/s with the gigs they play at and promote.
These crews all have thier own side projects and gigs, and this night should by no means interfere with any of it (infact it should only make the independant gigs stronger). A positive attitude and support is needed by all of us to make this a success, and to
make "Breaks" a word that is related to farkin great party music again, and not what has become a harsh/loaded word to most Melbourne punters.
If you meet a random, and they dont know about Breaks send them to Bass camp. If you got mates looking for some good tunes on a Thurs, send them to Bass camp. when you have nothing to do on a Thursday, drop into Bass camp.
(and take us up on our 241 drink cards from said djs )
heres the detials, free list and special treatment for all Mb.com ers who get in touch with me or chris.
and to Chris > your a legend mate. Never an angsty moment between us, solid ethics, solid crews on board, its been an absolute pleasure!
and to all the gang, who I wont list individually for fear of missing someone, but damn, without you guys who play, make flyers, spread the word, turn up for shots, its you guys that have REALLY made it last for so long. Bring on 2009!
