Received one fine for not voting in the '06 state election. Thought this to be weird as I had no recollection of ever enrolling. I've got a sneaking suspicion that my local member did a dodgy and filled out my details on a bogus enrolment form after doorknocking my house at the time and receiving a blunt uninterested response

Found out recently that my name was stricken from the electoral roll years ago as I never updated my address (the one i never gave them to begin withlol)

Clowns the lot of em, smoke and mirrors, promises consistently reneged on etc etc

Voting is gay. I didn't vote in the last one, but that aas because I got really pissed the night before and slept in until 6pm.

1. If you do not vote you waive your right to complain at how crap the systems are
2. Yes it may well be a wasted vote but stand up and be counted, only then we will stand a chance of change possibly happening.....
3. I agree all parties are POO, but we got to try.....

So you are saying that I deserve to be dictated too and accept any gov't descision that effects me wholeheartedly just cause I didn't vote... fuck that. LOL, so, a little mark on a piece of paper gives me the freedom to complain? wtf? the outcome would be EXACTLY THE SAME whether I did or didn't place that mark on that piece of paper.....

but you don't see that if all the people that thought like you actually got out there and voted that perhaps there could be change? I mean i have lots of friends that do not vote, but if you all started to vote, then we could start change....

What do you propse then? There has to be an alternative, otherwise the appathy in my book shows that you are OK with what is happening, cause you are not trying to induce a change....

2 party systems are ghey, there's no real choice. look at the backflip labour have done back to the right over boats and mining tax. They're idiots.

Democracy needs more options to make it work IMO.

i havent voted 2 times. now they've just taken me off the roll as i had not updated my address forever. i dont mind i hardly complain about anything. if they put an internet filter in i will complain a bit, not that it's liekly to really affect me tho huhu.

If I really wanted to WORK to make change, I would really need to get out there and campaign and evangelise... it takes more than a few 100 people that I know to make a difference... and if I was going to do that, I may as well run and get into politics myself...... Sorry, ticking a box does not count as working together to make a change imo.

voting is compulsory for australian citizens anyway.

There are plenty of avenues, take to the streets, when a council puts in plans to redevelope something you disagree with, object to the developement, GO to the council meetings etc...
I do... and yeah the result may not always change, but change will not (Quote Pantene) happen overnight but it will happen....

Look at different grass routes organisations.

And peoples your vote is not all about you, it is to try and create a society that works for as many people as possible, it is our opportunity to help those that cannot always help themselves, it effect other people i.e a parties policy on mental health, standard health, education, welfare, more support for our Indegious People, while these do not affect me directly they are sure something that i look at when deciding who gets my vote!

and YES, pretty much it has to get to the point where the things you want fixed in your apartment become SO BAD(for example) that it forces you to get on the streets and PROTEST like the cab drivers did, etc.

If every one felt there vote did not count then nothing would happen. we are extremely fortunate to even have the democratic process we have and tbh preferential voting is by far the fairest form of voting (at least we don't have the same as USA or UK).

I really hope that the greens gain the balance of power in the senate with a labour government, maybe even one in the house of reps.
