Still, we got to see most of the artwork around Melbs city centre.

New York City is testing a small batch of LED streetlights that redesign not only the light, but the entire lamppost as well. With current bulbs rated for about 24,000 hours, the new LED models, which rate for between 50,000 and 70,000 hours, would be a huge improvement. In addition to lasting longer, the LEDs would also use 25% to 30% less energy and emit no harmful chemicals when discarded.

just out of curiosity...given that sketch city have received funding from the government, does their support for this event in any way jeopardise it?

no.
lots of those supporters are completely legit buisnesses, as is sketch city.

this is an event/an exhibition to protest the new laws, aint nothing illegal or dubious about it.

i'm not questioning the legitimacy of their business or the legality of the event, just the conflict of receiving funds from the government whilst protesting against its policies.

i realise that the gov't can't exactly take away their right to protest...but it's just a thought....

we walk a fine line promoting workshops and graff events to the public at ALL,
and when we get funding from a govt body its really re assuring that they understand the reaches of the art form is not just vandalism, which is what they are trying to combat.

dont student bodies, teachers, taxi drivers etc all get some kind of support from govt?
also, i should point out that the laws have been brought in by the state govt, and that there are factions in other areas of govt who do NOT think its the answer.

i dunno, ive got my back up recently about all this.
prolly cause its tricky times, we are trying to help kids see how applying thier art can be a way to create and survive, and ive still got people around me who call me scum for doing so.
(not you babe!, but even my dad had a dig the other day, so many people jsut dont geddit)

I think thats one of the hallmarks of a functioning democracy actually.

would you prefer to live in a society where the government only provides funding to groups that agree with what it says/thinks? how about only granting media rights/licences to media outlets that portray it in a positive light, and revoking these rights/licences if they dont?

I'm sure separation of powers comes in here somewhere so that the gov can put the money aside but then another branch of the exec determines who geets the funds. of course I'm not exactly a constitutional expert, or even really have average IQ, so I'm just guessing.

i was actually thinking more along the lines of if they haven't received the funding there might some repercussions.

Its from a street art exhibition at the Tate Modern in London, and that one was stuck on the outside of the building.

I love the ambiguousness in his pose and the fact he's really holding a camera.

just went and checked it out...sick exhibition, way better than i could have imagined. 3 rooms of installation stuff then the main gallery space packed with his paintings/montages/sculptures

i counted over 200,000 pounds worth of sold work....someone is getting paid tonight!
