and apparently you get points for making a call, points for maknig an appointment, so its not all make-sale-to-keep-job etc etc

my first phone interview is tommorrow morning.

the friend who referred me is excited and KEEN, and im wondering what the commission on recruitment is?!

Anyone interested in working on the radio?

I'm at Nova 100 at the mo working as the audio producer for the breakfast show, but I'll be heading back to the UK in september so my job will be up for grabs.

It basically involes producing all intros and promos for the show as well as any other bits of audio they might use.

The hours are pretty full on (start at 5.45) but you gat to have the arvo off everyday which I find quite sweet.

You do have to deal with pretty terrible chart music and the 'talent' too, but it's much better that a shitty desk job I say.

I expect they'll ony be interested in someone who has a previous knowledge of radio production but it could be worth a try if your keyed up on music producion too. If your keen give me a shout and I'll send you more deets.

Cheers,
Rog

because the role i take in clubs is limited.

i do not do graphic design.
i do not play music.

i am an advertising and marketing whizz who can take any event and make it work,
but im not a jack-of-all-clubs who can jump from decks to desk to lighting rig with ease. and only the big clubs, and not many of them, need someone like me.

plus, im tired of going out obligations. i want to go out to party.

plus, this 2am thing is making what im good at, really really hard.

hahaha, you've learnt the speel already

waste = spend thousands of dollars and get absolutely NO response

I did it for several months and qualified every caller. How many do ya reckon found me through Google?

ONE, and the job never went ahead.

Now I'm sure a sales rep will put some kind of positive spin on that, but when it comes down to it I spent thousands to get nothing

I have since tinkered with one of the pages on my site and it now shows up as # 1 with certain keywords. Now I just have to figure out how to make the same thing happen on teh rest of the pages

no i havent learnt the spiel. well, i am learning it now for my role playing thing interview thing on friday.

i know fuck all about it and am skeptical as hell.

they said at first, 'you only pay for what happens, as you go'

then they say 'campaigns start at $1500 a month"

they also say that this particular company has technology for reporting and tracking that nobody else in the world has!

my friedns whos donig it is still amped, and told me if i get offered the job, i should take it all any cost.

cost at this point looks like not being able to give enough notice here,
and succumbing to the jaws of the beast and 'sellling'
i jsut hope it isnt 'selling' of the kind your talknig about, as in, pulling wool over eyes, especially of small buisness owners like you BRB.

but maybe all sales are like that.

company started three years ago, now biggest worldwide local SEM company.

im told these things.
i dont know what to believe.

shep?

Marshal's Corp. is now hiring! Dare to earn more and in next to
no time! We now need people willing to take up a position of
the Financial Assistant to help out with the remittance of the funds from company's clients worldwide.
As the business is being run on the large scales we lose a lot
by disbursing taxes, that's why we need you to interchange the amounts
and help us at least to reduce the tax burden. Your personal proceeds in this
case would be 5%-7% out of every transaction operation which is on the
regular basis equal to around 2500$ a month.

Besides we offer:
- Flexible schedule (6 hours a week)
- Saturdays & Sundays off

Requirements:
- Need to be aged 18 +;
- No criminal record ;
- Regular Internet access;
- Basic knowledge of Accounting;
- Ability to accept payments using your bank account;
- Ability to resend the money through Western Union.

If feel qualified ,please, provide the following to start up:
- Fist Name:
- Last Name:
- Age:
- Sex:
- Country:
- Home Address:
- State, City, Zip:
- Phone number( home and cell):
- Valid email address:

NOTE:!!!! the email address you use to contact us for the first time is: [email protected], in the subject field put "interested".

Please, use only mentioned address! Failure in doing so might result in our inability to get your response.

I'm sure you already know this, but, it's structured in a way that you pay per click and you also nominate how much you think each particular keyword is worth. Your ranking is then decided by the highest 'bidder' for each keyword.

The amount of money required for a small business to even make a dent (i.e $1500 a month as Kitty has stated) just isn't in their budget

If I wasted that opportunity (and a stack of $$$) then I'd love some advice on how I coulda made it work.

Although, I still think my money would be best spent elsewhere

brb - i think the key to nailing google adwords is making sure your site is optimised to convert traffic. one thing i know is google delivers traffic - and if your keywords and optimisation strategy is right they are pretty qualified.

issues can happen with budget churn if ...

- you buy high demand generic keywords that have high search volumes and your max. bid is too high
- your site has a low quality score
- there are issues with load time, drop off etc on your end

google lead generation will generally be online ... i don't think it really adds to inbound call volume ... and even so most people when asked how they heard about your business say it was traditional media.

short answer - it is possible to burn through budget on google if it's not planned right ... problem is, google has no cusntomer service so no one really gives you any help there.

kitty - i'm not sure what their definition of biggest worldwide local SEM company is. Effectively the largest SEM company in the world is google - as they are the vendor ... but truth be told, this area of SEM(ie onsellers) is new to Australia.

in terms of technology - who knows - most companies have their own propietary technology. Something like this must have some sort of self optimising bidding technology.

Things that stick out to me as warning signs

- the company has no real point of difference. it onsells media on another platform ... low barriers to competitor entry. Fairfax and MelbourneIt have an offering like this, same with countless other companies
- the $1500 minimum spend will be a big ask for the market they are aiming at.
- small rats and mice advertisers (ie small sole trader, SME spenders) are high maintenance ... so they better have a good CRM backend or at least customer service otherwise the negative word of mouth could be deadly.

they say they have 'revolutionary technology' when it comes to the tracking and reporting side of things, automatic optimization of the campaign as each click registers etc.
but I dont know enough about the bidding process and the technology required to even ask any educated questions of them!

- the $1500 minimum spend will be a big ask for the market they are aiming at.
this factor worries me.
i understand that plenty of buisnesses spend that much on print media monthly, but that is tangible, it is something they can see and understand..
they have ten key areas they are targeting, like, animals (vets etc), functions, lawyers, dentists etc
plus, if its pay as you go, then why ask for a commitment of $1500?
I mean, i understand that the more you spend the more youll see results, but I feel many buisnesses just wont even commit to that for one month.
- small rats and mice advertisers (ie small sole trader, SME spenders) are high maintenance ... so they better have a good CRM backend or at least customer service otherwise the negative word of mouth could be deadly.
high maintenance for the SEM company?
i dont quite get what you mean here...
if they dont have the right customer feedback system then the SEM marketing wont grow the buisness at all casue of the bad WOM?

i also went to their USA site and they really DONT give you all the info you need to understand what they do for your buisness.
hrmmmm still.

kitty - issue re the 1500 is that it goes against the idea that search SEM is scaleable ... ie self funding and easy to test/learn/evolve. $1500 is a barrier to entry to a SME with limited cash flow.

In terms of CRM - I mean ReachLocal. How are they equipped to service customers (ie those who have signed up) who

- aren't getting sales
- can't track results
- need to stop/start/pause campaigns
- want daily reports etc
- want to optimise keywords

All important elements in the mix. Plus, they need to make sure their team is skilled and trained on how the google bid system works, qual scores, managing accounts etc etc etc

are there other companies that do not put a minimum limit on the spend for SEM?
why put that limit if thier main targets are SMALL buisnesses?? just to make it worth thier time or what?

as far as i can tell at this point, the results are tracked better, more concisely, than any of the other companies who do SEM.
they can get daily reports, see how many calls, clicks, coupons etc
and their keywords are optimized automatically using the program they have that is patent pending...
apparently nobody really understands the google bid system etc until they go on the week long boot camp...
and then they all sound evangalist about it.

do you think i should ask them about the reason for the minimum spend?
also should i ask what happens if they dont get sales?

would you suggest that this might be a good natural progression for me, knowing what you do about my job now??
