Modifying volume on .WAV files

Post by ctoafn_DMZ »

Need a lil help :)

I have a dj mix recording that I need to clean up. It was recorded at 1411k and it seems that all is fine with volumes but when it comes o the mix and the crossfader is not across completely to one side or another, the volume drops significantly.

I have the Creative Pack (including Creative Wave Studio) and Sony Vegas but can't seem to increase the volume on only the selected parts of the file (i.e. the parts I select which need to be increased). It just increases the volume on the whole file.

Can anyone suggest how this can be done in the above programs or what else I could use to fix it up? I love you long time

Cheers

Not so stupid a question cause that is what I am doing :-) Only just getting into the wav manipulation stuff (the whole production thing in general really;-) I was getting nothing from the help manual.

Can you highlight just one channel at a time, and normalise them individually?

A far better method is to use a volume envelope. If you have Sound Forge, simpy right click on the waveform display, select volume envelope and it will let you draw the envelope using hitpoints.

^^ spot on. haven't simply normalized stuff for awhile, using an envelope will get it closer to what you need.

I thought the point of the assistance was that the software being used was Creative Pack (including Creative Wave Studio) and Sony Vegas.

Its all good - I finally bought Cubase SX and did it easily through there. Only exported it in mono wav but still comes out good IMO. I'll put it up in the mixes section tomorrow. Its my live mix set from before Raiden. I just got to cut it up into tracks to give to mates on cd but a one track 50 minute is perfect for the net.

Shoudl have Hadry and Dystopias done by the end of the weekend so he can choose to put it on the net is Sir Thomas so wishes ;-)
