After a sell-out show with Kenny Larkin last year drawing accolades across the board, revered underground event series Blow Your Own Way returns with one of the hottest names in modern electronica - Alex Smoke LIVE. Again deftly interweaving the boutique with the underground, this episode enters the luscious surroundings of the historic Saratoga complex alongside Melbourne's finest purveyors of minimal techno, microhouse and deep funk – including the Blow Your Own Way debut of Pat Stormont LIVE and a specially choreographed set from Dallas Raft incorporating 3 decks and sampling units, enabling him to mix and layer up to 9 records simultaneously!! Once again we welcome you to the cutting-edge of electronic music, we welcome you in fact, to Paradolia…
ARTIST:
Infusing strongly European-inspired minimal techno and house with melodic Detroit strings, electro, dub, acoustic and even classical elements, Smoke's music is refreshingly original and inspiring. His prolific output possesses a warmth all-too-often lacking in that of his contemporaries, his sound embracing human musicality as much as brittle machine soul. After his highly acclaimed album releases on Soma Records, Incommunicado (2005) and Paradolia (2006), and a string of killer twelve inches on coveted label Vakant from Berlin, Alex has quickly climbed the ranks of the techno elite and is consistently placed in lists alongside the best minimal and techno producers the world over. Alex has just released Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi Vol. 3 (November 2006) on Soma Records, assembling an expansive selection of tracks that perfectly define his influences and style - from unreleased Smoke material to forgotten classics from legendary producers like Basic Channel, Juan Atkins and Robert Hood, to modern electronic pioneers, including Claro Intelecto, Thomas Brinkmann and Troy Pierce.
Having remixed the likes of Mylo, Alex Under, Vector Lovers, Steve Reich, Junior Boys, Depeche Mode, Funk D'Void, Slam and Andre Kraml, Alex is in huge demand as a producer, remixer and DJ, even putting together a live mix for the massively popular ‘Essential Mix’ on UK’s BBC Radio One earlier this year. He has already toured the world over; playing some of the most highly regarded clubs and Festivals across the UK, Europe, USA, Russia, Japan and beyond. His live sets are the stuff of legend. After a brief appearance at Melbourne’s Red Bull Music Academy, Soma Corp is proud to present the full Alex Smoke LIVE experience in his first Australasian tour.

It's gonna be a loooooooooong Oz Day Weekend...
Hope someone is able to organise a Matthew Jonson sideshow also.
Without meaning to hijack: Mathew Jonson is still listed as a headliner on the Rainbow Serpent website (which had been noticably light on info...)
If he has been cancelled I think it's pretty poor form keeping his name up there when people are buying or deciding to buy tickets!
:end Rant:
Oh well, this just makes me more keen for a double dose of Smoke.
Nice work Soma Corp.

He's definitely been cancelled mate. I've let them know re: the website and he'll be removed shortly. They're just flat-out.
Aren't we all *wipes sweat from brow*
Double dose of Smoke is highly recommended though. I'm going for the triple dose with Sydney also, but if you really want to get serious you could just wire yourself on 5 doses of Smoke and head to Brisbane and Auckland as well
Poster love...

You should all be super pumped for what Dallas has planned. Some choice words from the horse's mouth...
Along with using 3 decks, the “PVDJ Grabberâ€, as it is technically named is a sample unit of great ability. Plugged in through both a channel/line-in & headphones on the mixer it has the ability to record a selection of bars (1,2,4,8 or 16) from whichever channel your headphones are selecting on the mixer. (This can be single or multiple). You virtually “GRAB†(record) the area of track being played by pressing one of the buttons according to the number of bars you would like to record. These can then be played back either as a loop of the recorded bar/s or a more “hands-on†approach of manually tapping button for snap shot of sample.(Almost live feel). The other impressive ability of the unit is to reverse the recorded sample & play back as a reversed loop.
What makes it so unique is I can have up to 6 samples playing through the one channel, all of various bar sizes, together with the 3 decks, creating a vast menagerie of sounds, taking the creativity of electronic construction to another level. At breaking point I can effectively mix and layer up to 9 records simultaneously!

Seriously good local line-up, overall.
Everyone will be quality but I think Pat and Dallas are seriously going to give Alex a lot to live up to beforehand.
He will, though. The man is genius
There's like 20 tix left on In The Mix so get in there peeps...
