it'll almost certainly be cingular-specific, and using cdma instead of gsm, so no.

mainly just the usa. everyone else agrees on gsm/umts/hsdpa/pal/240v. the us has to go its own way.

they dont, they use GSM on a different bandwidth. as far as i can remember from my Defence days the US is 850 MHz and 1900 MHz. mostly 1900.
quad and triband phones will work pretty much anywhere in the word. in fact you can even use your AUS mobile overseas with the same simcard (global roaming)
chances are the US version of this phone would "work" in australia... getting a simcard from an aussie carrier that fits would be another matter.

samsung's spin off looks much nicer spec wise. it was only a matter of time... apple wont be able to compete in this market.

only downside is that it still has the s60-standard 90-degree qvga screen (240x320). low dpi.

generic pejorative, yo. honestly, it looks good, other than the input side of things. writing smses on that thing will be horrid.

i'm willing to bet you that i could write an sms much faster (order of magnitude) on any given t9 phone than i could with an iphone.

t9 is the input recognition method, not the actual input device, though. i can see that being implemented fairly easily in the iphone.

semanticator.
a predictive text input method surely would be used on the iphone. god knows it will be better than the windows mobile variety.

i'm sure they'll mitigate it, but i'm just saying, i can see it being long. given that by far most of my communication is sms rather than calls.

from what i've seen of the engineering approach re the touch screen input on the iphone, i am very interested to get hold of one.

Some guy was selling what was apparently a legitimate one on ebay. Went for $800. Apple got wind of it and ebay brought down the auction - after it was well and truly ended though.
There would be a few floating around out there...

*Drools* I think I'll wait and see what the battery is like first though...
... I just want the old skool nokia days with a phone that makes calls and can sms and the battery doesn't need charging on a daily basis.
