As always, I'm enjoying the shit out of it. Jake's pivitol role, even as a virginal actor. And so well written. I think this could have been the first moment I fell in love with emotionally desponency in young males. Maybe it's the mother in me, maybe it's the masochist, I just don't know. I enjoy fearing the unknown factor, but only because the known factor is so appealing in it's own right.

I might have some issues I need to sort through

Just watched a really groovy show about crop circles on the ABC. Quite a bit of scientific 'evidence' that was very interesting...

Image

One of the scientists/astronomers was saying he'd received an email from NASA regarding certain pathways across the universe that were like a slippery dip for spacecraft to easily travel around. The pathways provided less friction, allowing for less fuel to be used by the spacecraft. Like an ocean's current.

Apparently the above crop circle is exactly the geometric shape of these pathways, with the Earth at it's centre. The crop circle was found long before the pathway information was discovered by NASA.

Hardy har har. The stalks were actually interlaced, so flat bits of wood and some rope wouldn't be able to re-create what's been discovered.

Wasn't the whole crop circle thing debunked a while ago as a natural phenomenon...

I watched a documentary about it ages ago -- my memory fails me as to what exactly was proven, but it didn't have anything to do with UFO's or people playing pranks.

It was apparently some kind of bug, pesticide or fungus that would react to surface ecology by influences of wind, water, spread of pests (bugs), pollutants, air temperature fluctuations, etc.

These would of course evolve over time without getting noticed at first -- hence your interlaced stalks and folds.

I think when people see perfection in nature we tend to believe it's a god or some unnatural 'higher' force that brings symmetry to a chaotic world. When really, if you think about, things like the golden rule and the fibonacci sequence resolve some formal mathematical explanation to a lot of things that are pretty relative.

...Still fun to live in a realm of possibility that it could be something else occurring that will just blow science out of the water...

http://www.skeptics.com.au/journal/1992/2.pdf

A brief synopsis:

The burden of proof that crop circles are anything
but hoaxes is now well and truly on the shoulders of the
experts, but don’t hold your breath. Can we draw any
lessons from what appears to have been a decade-long
fiasco? Well, we can use it as an illustration of poor
investigation. The episode has been a classic display of
this, with a long list of errors and weaknesses, amongst
which are:
• Appeals to authority
• Unchallengable statements
• Use of subjective techniques to gather evidence
• Publication through the mass media, avoidance of
the usual scientific channels
• Untested assumptions of competence
• Ad hoc bandages for defective theories
• Allegations of cover-up
• Ad hominem attacks on critics
and so on and so on.
Mostly the crop circle experience has just been a bit
silly. However, there are worrying aspects, not the least
of which has been the role of the media. The broadcast
and print media have carried frequent items about crop
circles. Delgado and Andrews and Meaden have
appeared on TV and radio, usually on different
programs, and almost invariably they are up against no
one more qualified than an ill-informed interviewer who
seems to know nothing about science and allows them
to present themselves as thoughtful, knowledgeable and
careful investigators. Rarely have critical scientists been
brought on, and when they have it is often to criticize
Meaden, who considers himself in the scientific arena.
I wanted to be a hero. I wanted to be the center of attention. I wanted the glory, I wanted the fame. I wanted the pretty girls to come up and say, "Hi, I see that you're good at Centipede."

Just saw the best episode of Dr Phil ever.

This chick was disgusted with certain words, couldn't say cockpit or Cheese Nips cause they contained words she found vulgar.

Dr Phil goes "what's wrong with the word 'cockpit'? It's a place where you sit and fly"

Yeah dude, both episodes have been very good.

Love finally knowing how locke broke his back. But honestly that seemed like more than 8 stories, when watchin the fall i was thinkin shit, no way he cud survive that.
and the magic box that creates whatever ur mind desires ? wtf. Maybe its got something to do with all the weird things that appear on the island from the losties memories. E.g. kate's horse, jacks dad, polar bear¿ etc. I was thinking the island has this ability, to create things from peoples memories, and maybe the dharma found a way to harness it with this box. great epi tho.

I think the box is more figurative than literal. If you notice a lot of the real world objects turn up on the island anyway. The characters are seeing what they should be seeing from a private/personal perspective. What they don't know is that they are ALL linked with each other by blood, circumstance, kinship and to a weirder extent ... 6 degrees of separation.

The guy who plays Ben is an awesome actor gotta say. He's mind-bogglingly good. "John, our electricity runs in an underground lair with 2 big wheels and giant hamsters" HAHA.

I'm just settling in (wine bottle in lap) to watch tonights episode of Wifeswap. In this evenings escapades, a traditional, BibleBelt family from Ohio are sending their motherly bumpkin to a non Christian household where 2 gay men are raising their 14 and 16 year old surrogate daughters. The 'wife' will be heading to redneck central for the swap
