Calibre & DRS + Mark Pritchard & Steve Spacek::Oct 6
Elementz is very proud to present four unique artists who are all at the top of their games in their respected genres and beyond. Spanning soul, funk, hip hop and drum and bass, this is sure to be a night of deep, soulful music.
Calibre
Dominick Martin aka Calibre has been responsible for some of the most beautiful tracks in drum and bass to date and continues to drop jaws worldwide with his sublime productions. From the highly acclaimed album, Musique Concrete on Creative Source, Calibre has remained at the cutting edge of drum and bass music producing records with a soul and depth that is rarely matched. With the release of the debut Mist:ical LP Eleventh Hour (alongside Marcus Intalex and ST Files), the retrospective compilation Shelflife and yet another artist album scheduled for the coming months, 2007 has to be one of Calibre’s busiest and best years yet. Having played all over the world, Calibre is finally making his long-awaited return to Melbourne.
MC DRS
MC DRS has been a force in the drum'n'bass scene for 15 years. Having experienced the early hardcore scene he joined the world-renowned Good Looking camp and was one of the primary MC's for LTJ Bukem. Fast forward to 2007 and DRS is now the MC for the Soul:r and Signature camp. Not only that but he is carving a name for himself in the hip hop world that is both solid and credible with his Broke ‘N English project. Fusing his long history as a D’n’B MC with his hip-hop credentials, he adds an edgy flavour to the scene and an honesty that is unmatchable.
Joined by Special Guests…
Mark Pritchard aka Troubleman aka Harmonic 33 aka Jedi Knights aka Global Communication
The man with too many names and releases to mention! Mark has worked with such musical luminaries as Tom Middleton and Richard James (Aphex Twin), signing to labels such as Warp, Creation, Good Looking and has remixed artists such as Lamb, The Orb, KRS-1 and Tribe Called Quest. Quite simply, Mark Pritchard is a cross-genre musical legend.
Whatever the style Mark's work has been characterised by his ability to give the music more room to get funky, producing deeply emotional and twisted sounds - guaranteed to get your groove on! Look out for new material in 2008 on Warp, Deep Medi, Planet Mu and Farout.
Steve Spacek (Black Pocket)
Hailing from out of south London, this sci-fi crooner has been making sweet soul music for well over a decade now. He first cut his teeth in a band called Stex in the early 90s and then formed a band called Spacek, which was widely lauded as one of the most original electronic/soul/rnb bands of the last ten years. Their first release – a track called Eve was and still is considered a modern day classic and catapulted them on to sign to Mos Def’s Good Tree imprint and in turn on to Island Blue. More recently Steve has released his debut solo effort Space Shift to high acclaim and is responsible for the beautiful vocals on drum and bass tracks for DBridge, Calibre & Commix. "Spacek is the Radiohead of Soul" – Style
A line up of artists of this standard doesn’t come around everyday, whether it be soul, hip hop, broken beat or drum & bass that makes you move, join us for a night of “just good musicâ€. Local DJs in attendance playing funk, hip hop and drum & bass; Ennio Styles, Blair Stafford, Ill Cadre, Joe Seven & Dust.
Sat Oct 6th @ Miss Libertine. 34 Franklin Street CBD. $25 on the door b4 11pm $35 after. Full Nexo Sound.
