That's the super high ISO running on the 5D probably, that, and sharpening in Photoshop.

lightroom... in this case changed the white balance and reduced down the saturation. boosted blues and reds a little.

Glenn>> problem is is that he probably shot it in RAW meaning you can't really view it un-altered..... no matter which settings (even a default) it is still being changed.

If you take low-light shots on auto white balance you end up with really warm (high colour temp) shots.... bright scenes usually turn out colder, but that's not necessarily right, if that makes any sense :? lol

deviant,

the RAW file with default settings will be the OG shot, straight from camera.

yeah, I was referring to the OG shot from teh camera

surely you would have the file that was d/loaded to the PC before it was edited in Lightroom?

You will probably find some pretty sweet angles there too

yeah, but the original file would be in .cr2 (raw) format making it unreadable by a browser....

nhd: which default? there are a few different ones that would give pretty different results.

man i am confused by what you have said Dan. you pull the photos off your camera the same way (usb camera to computer yeah?), then put them through lightroom of photoshop or whatever and do post production work

what are you doing again?

I'm not doing anything???? :?

What I'm saying is, that without a program like lightroom or photoshop etc etc RAW files are unusable.

you can't just not do anything to them, even if you open the file and save as jpg the program is aplying "default" adjustments to the image.

yeah, but it won't have all the post processing, which is what I'm interested in (what teh shot looked like before he messed with it)

That's wrong. A raw file opened in photoshop is the original image.

stray is correct (i am correct)

the default setting on a raw file are your camera settings the photo was taken with..

anyway, less chat more photos!

Original shot with some jpeg compression artifacts.

Image

Generally I pull all my pics from my CF card into Lightroom, sort them, bin.com any i don't like/too soft, 5 star the ones I will edit.

Then I go through each image and crop/straighten, clone/heal to kill spots/flare (i do this in photoshop if there's a lot of work that needs doing).

Change colour temp (dan is right - most images taken on AWB in-camera come out quite warm).

Adjust shadows/highlights so they aren't crap.

Adjust colours if I think the shot needs it. Some do some don't. Most do.

Reduce noise a little bit, although with all my night shots I try to keep my ISO at 100-400.

Sharpen a little bit in Lightroom. When I go to export for web I use Smart Sharpen in Photoshop for that little bit of extra kick.

Export as a TIFF file if I need to edit in PS. Export as a 1920x1200 PNG file so i can use it as desktop wallpaper and a 800x533 jpeg for display on web.

mrmm probably 80% quality from exporting thru "save for web" from PS.

i shouldn't have used that much compression but i do it for slow internet users everywhere.

dust on the actual camera sensor... something that DSLRs are prone to due to the ability to take the lense off.
