MELBOURNE ARTISTS AUCTION FOR BURMA RELIEF
Local and International Street Artists Dig Deep to Support Victims of Cyclone Nargis

South Burma has been left devastated by the recent cyclone Nargis, with over 100,000 people feared dead and reports of at least 2 million left without shelter, food or clean water. In a bid to provide relief for the families of Burma, street artists from Melbourne and abroad have agreed to provide artworks to be sold at auction, with all proceeds being proudly donated to CARE Australia.

‘melBurners for Burma’ is a collection of work from local and international street artists who are kind enough to donate their art for the cause. The artwork will be sold to the highest bidder and every dollar will go directly to CARE Australia’s Burma Appeal.

CARE has 500 staff members in Burma working on projects in 120 villages and towns across the country. With so many workers already in place and effectively helping the victims, the money raised will provide immediate and long-term relief for many.

Melbourne is renowned worldwide for the vast amount of street art boasted on the city’s walls. In addition to the walls outside, many of Melbourne’s galleries and shop fronts flaunt the work of talented local street artists. The auction will include the latest works of some of Melbourne’s stunning street artists.

‘melBurners for Burma’ begins in July at The Lounge on Swanston St with all artwork being displayed for two weeks. The auction will take place at The Lounge at 6:30pm on Wednesday, July 16.

he is broken legged, jobless and about to be homeless at the moment but
saw the news and was horrified, wanted to do something to help!

CARE is one of the only groups they are allowing aid to in burma I think,
so i think it will all end up in the right places!

it was fantastic!!!

great crowd, and some bidding wars going on...
for those of you who always want to buy street art > YOU MISSED OUT!!

some of the works going for as cheap as $20...other favorites up near $300
in total i think we made about $2,500 ...

i was run off my feet trying to get recipets and cash and drinking when i could so ended up quite excited/racous and bought two pieces that i have no wall space for!!

bigups to al and all the artists who donated stuff....and even bigger bigups to the people who gave extra and bidded and took home art for charity!

aroes > which ones you get?

andrez > oh dude, we did have OS artists send stuff!!! next time ill put the call out on MB.com, but I did for fire aid and not one person from MB donated art so i thought no point this time....
thanks for the offer!!!

Gonna give the ugly face piece to my mate nicole coz she really wanted it and i outbid her!!
All for a noble cause...Al Glyph is a badman, largest of ups for organising
