It was broke - some pages took aeons to load if there were too many apps on them. Giving applications their own (optional) tabs is a brilliant idea. You may have to click a couple more times to see how many times someone has been bitten by a zombie, but oh well. I think the new look is heaps less cluttered and makes way more sense.

Fair enough... I didn't experience any problems prior...

Mind you, I don't spend hours surfing other people's pages.

I agree, the tabs make for cleaner look and the amount of apps some people have on their pages as mentioned would take forever to load, could not with that. I don't understand, because if your a user of Firefox - tab windows, then you would be liking the new facebook.

I think it's fine now. Didn't like it at first but they weren't really finished implementing everything. The little sidebar down the bottom is handy. So long as I can get to the Events pages with one click, I'm happy.

Basically they are tracking your movements on external sites through a 1x1 pixel and cookies. Sort of old school practice, but with the added data that facebook already has on you...

Technical Support Required....

Whenever I try and open the Facebook home page, It wont load. All of the other pages work. When trying to open the home page the progress bar loads very slowly and the page wont show up on screen. Is this because im a technical retard? All of the other pages and sites I look up load, just the home page is giving me grief.

Any suggestions??

I'm not very good at navigating Facebook and I wanna send an invitation to a bunch of people with a link attached. I tried to create a new message but it wants me to type in everyone's names and that's just dumb. I don't want to 'share a link' cause it won't send it only to specific people and I will want responses.

Ow do I do zis???

Was very strange, i had a moment of, am i a :tard: and have requested my own friendship?

Nope, she's my Manchester counterpart. And i guess i wasnt thinking my name is so unique there wont be another one in the world, but it was still felt a little odd.

I get invites from people with the same surname as me, because we're pretty rare in the world, got plenty of ancestors back in Chicago though stemming back from my great great great grandfather (or something like that) originally from the Calabria region of Italy.

that's kinda scary.
the scarier thing is how all of your web content and emails are scanned for words and phrases so ads can be more targeted to you.
I also have a strong dislike for the term "genre hopping" it's like there's a frog in your crate.

I didn't want to say it, but, yeah thats what disturbed me aswell. Only because of the genres it then lists. Because, in essense they all stem from the same roots, same mother genres kinda, so, you kind of allready know exactly what to expect.

If he had written genre hopping, and left it at that, I'd of thought Dance, Hip-Hop, Pop, Retro, Rock N Roll etc, and THAT would have been impressive. But I think 'Disc, House, Funk & Electro' is just stock standard now.

but thats all they are now days.

Mix Cds. Theres so many mixes out there in cyber space now days that it's retarded.

I could get a mix Cd, or a Mix, and find alot more that are equally as good if not better, all with in the same context.

There has to be more to this culture than mixing two songs end to end and uploading it to the net.

Than designing covers and labels, and hosting events to try and tie it all into reality and shit like that. That's what disturbs me about it. That it's all so disposable.

Don't get me wrong, 86 is a fantastic dj, i'm sure a mix tape of his would be well worth the money and time. I'm pretty keen to hear it. Was certainly not trying to talk down the content of the ad.

Genre hopping is just a term I don't like, I'd prefer innovative, but that's really just personal taste vs language.
I also get concerned about how much so called "private information" of mine is shared with third party ad bots.
It's my fault, I'm sure. I didn't read facebook's terms of uses / privacy statement etc...
It's just a worry.

See, I like adjectives. Its a major part of what I'm studying to be. I also like, well not like, but am involved with on some, small, obscure level, marketting (Not professionally, just making designs for the little parties), so when I put the two together, I think "what words can I use to describe this to make it appeal to the target audience?" Words like, Genre hopping and innovative don't do it for me, especially when those genres are then listed. BUT! .. At the end of the day, I'm a Dj. So as gay as it sounds, I'd let the music be the thing to convince me, not the wording. But just that wording, doesn't make it jump out and get my attention.
To me it just says "Another Mix, which will be on the same level as the other 50 trillion messages I get to download links or what not"

What about cutting the mix into snippets, and uploading them to somewhere they can be streamed, with a play list and so forth, some nice art work etc, that way people can see what they're install for? I don't know. I'm just putting my 2c in because when I read that blurb it REALLY made me lose interest. I'm sorry if that sounds mean and all. I don't mean any disrespect but yeah, it just sounds really, same is same is sorry.

The Facebook contextual ads are pretty scary, I saw an ad for a "Zion Cluster Babylon Rocker" t-shirt.

Anyone who's read Neuromancer by William Gibson would know that this is in reference to the Rastafarian space station featured in the novel. The fucking novel is in my list of favourite books for my profile info. Naturally I clicked on the ad because I was curious, but there were other interesting shirts there too. The ploy worked.

I've also heard that if you change your relationship to "Single", the contextual ads change to dating websites.

I don't mind this kind of advertising so much, at least they're showing me stuff I have a higher percentage of being interested in. But also the personalised adverts don't really broaden my horizons, and show me other things folks are trying to flog. The ads lose their impact because I've seen them already a billion times over.
