Personally I think Harry's mistake was saying the word "little" before "paki friend". Denotes superiority, that's what offended me. Paki is short for Pakistani imo.

My british mate couldn't believe it when he lived in Oz and was watching the cricket and one of the commentators referred to the Pakistan team as "The Paki's".

Of course for aussies the word Paki has no inherently bad meaning but for Brits its an exact equivalent of the N word.

we used to call the Greeks and Italianos 'wogs' at school, and they didn't really care. pretty much wogs, chinks and skips was used every day. not cool, but it was how the school was.

I call some of my mediteranian mates wogs - and they call me skippy.
I have a black friend who calls me cracker, and I call him my nigga - he thinks it's hilarious.

Every racial group has their own nicknames as such, and as long as it's used in the right context, its fine.
I wouldn't go down South Central LA and start dropping the 'N' word, just like someone from there wouldn't last long in my area calling random white people crackers.

Everyone knows when they can drop words like this, and mean it in a non-threatening or racially offensive way.
And everyone knows when not to use them.

Personally, I can't see how 'Paki' is offensive. It's a abreviation of Pakistani, yes?
But personally, the people who shit me the most are the ultra PC wankers who make a big deal out of things like this. Sometimes you'd think some tie-dyed, straight fringed lesbian in a sharehouse in Fitzroy had come over in a slave ship from the Ivory Coast by the way a point is put forward. (Yes, I am sterotyping here, but you know what I mean).

I love all people. Black, white, whatever. If I'm going to call one of my big Maori mates a coconut to his face, then have a laugh with him about it while he jokingly calls me whitey, I personally think it has bridged some sort of racial barrier - in strange sort of way, I admit. But, it's a common occurance in regards to inter-racial mateship, and at least we aren't trying to kill eachother.

In closing, there's a time and a place. Use your brains when using these type of words, and you won't get yourself in shite.
Some people are just too pent up about this sort of thing, and it just makes the problem worse IMO.
