MY INPRESS COLUMN NEXT WEEK: SEND ME YOUR SHIZ!!!
MY INPRESS COLUMN NEXT WEEK: SEND ME YOUR SHIZ!!!
NEXT COLUMN COMES OUT NEXT WEDNESDAY. IF YOU NEED ANYTHING HYPED, GET IT TO ME BY THIS SUNDAY MORNING AT THE LATEST. WERD!
My email is below:
So I just got tapped on the shoulder to write a monthly column for Inpress focussing on funk, soul AND closely related genres of music. My interpretation of said genres is far reaching, so if you'd like to have anything mentioned, promoted, hyped, sold and/or worded up that falls within, at or near these boundaries, please contact me at the following email address (or pm):
[email protected]
You could also send the old way:
8 Park Road
Ringwood North VIC 3134
What I'm looking for:
- NEW RELEASES: More than happy to review anything you want to send my way if you are a label or represent a label.
- CLUB NIGHTS/EVENTS: Promote your parties through me, assuming we're on the same wavelength. DJ's and/or promoters welcome.
- YOUR OWN PRODUCTIONS: Make it phat and I'll hype it for you.
- ANY INFO ON THE SCENE: From your viewpoint and I'll make an effort to express it -- if you hear anything first, let me know.
So yeah, it should be interesting to say the least. My first column will appear in 2 weeks; I just gotta think of a name for it.
If you're looking for a bit more info on 'related genres' add Melbourne Funk Collective as a friend on My Space and peep the page. It has all the info.

^^^ Yep, pretty much funk n soul from all generations. Not just the old stuff, but new producers, too, a la FK5, South City Allstars, AGFA, etc. Edits be sweet, too. As much as I respect and love dnb and reggae/dancehall, they've already got those genres covered.
Just spoke with Chris @ Northside and he's sending me heaps of info/links on stuff, but I'm in there enough anywayz. Would love some more info from sources I'd normally not use, i.e. you.
Cheers...

Funk show on PBS going to be a source to bro, for older stuff, you know the scene sure the heads will feed you what you need.
Get a writing style down as well, set yourself apart. You are part of culture now, use it!
Focus on local where you can!!

why? you have been part of the funk revival - everything has it's turn.
Something else took over from Lynt's breaks column and that took over from something else...
Reggea will be fine.

Re: MY MONTHLY INPRESS COLUMN: SEND ME YOUR SHIZ!!!
its sad for jesse and the reggae community, but try not to feel like you are personally shafting anyone. Not to be cold about it, but id imagine inpress are making commercial decisions relevant to their shrinking adversiting revenue and claiming a stake in new readers/pulling in advertising from more bars etc
Reggae is strong in melbourne and Jesse's show has an amazing following. Thinking out loud, but I wonder if in inpresses view, they would think that reggae writings wouldn't really pull in advertising etc, if the current gigs are strong and look after themselves. my impression from your sort of styles OB is that there might be a decent diversity of smaller events they are trying to tap into?
Anyway, certainly a worthy genre to have space for. And of course, in saying that, no disrespect to Jesse and what he does.

Re: MY MONTHLY INPRESS COLUMN: SEND ME YOUR SHIZ!!!
heh heh... no hard feelings bro! as Foundation Stepper suggested, the reggae scene is doing fine, and I don't think the lack of a column is gonna make much difference. I'm still sad to see it go, but such is life... good luck with your writing...obliveus wrote:FoundationStepper wrote:Actually I think your new spot has just kicked out Jesse I's reggae piece. Re: NEW MONTHLY INPRESS COLUMN: SEND ME YOUR SHIZ!!!
Congrats, mate.
I used to do my own column (Neural Implant) in Inpress, for 6 years all up, and loved every moment of it. Still miss the wayward beast of a weekly head-***k eight years after I stopped.
Enjoy!!

Re: NEW MONTHLY INPRESS COLUMN: SEND ME YOUR SHIZ!!!
do we need to explain it to them OB?
Seriously noticed a rise in funk releases, new funk, old funk perveyors, funk nights and funk influences across genres in the last notable period of time.
Due.
