MISSION CAMBODIA - NOV 7TH - MISS LIBERTINE - HUGE LINEUP

Post by FRAKSHA... »

Sunday November 7th will see some of Melbourne’s most talented DJ’s and artists joining together at Miss Libertine for a massive day of bass, barbeque and beats in support of The Cambodian Kids Foundation.

With two rooms covering hip hop, dubstep, reggae and DnB as well as a barbeque on the balcony and giveaways from our sponsors, it’s sure to be a great day, so come get ya skank on and in doing so help contribute towards some less fortunate others at the same time.

In late November three friends of mine will be heading over to Cambodia as part of the Cambodian Kids Foundation (CKF) to spend some time with the kids and in doing treating them for head lice, scabies, worms and taking them out on day trips amongst other activities.

All proceeds raised from this event will go towards the CKF and in particular the trip in November

Below is an overview of some of the projects the foundation has been involved in:

Saing Sy Centre
(named after the Cambodian Country Director)

On the 10th of May 2010 an amazing new school was opened at Saing Sy and there are over 638 children attending.

The students are supported through education, sanitation, nutrition and family assistance. The centre also has a computer room and a playground which are currently still under construction.

Classes at the Saing Sy centre run from Monday to Friday, with community classes held every weekend. Children are enrolled in each of the following classes: Khmer language, English language, Leadership training, conflict resolution, job seeking, art, health and hygiene, computer classes, sports and environmental education.

The Saing Sy Centre is an integral component of Cambodian Kids Foundation's Child Protection and Education Program.

The Rudi Boa Centre
(This centre was named after a young Scottish boy whom was killed in NSW. The centre was named by his mother who knew he loved back packing through Cambodia.)

The Rudi Boa Centre is located in the Borey Santepheap II community. The Santepheap II community was built in 2006 by a private company 7NG, for people who were evicted from the Dey Krahorm and Beoung Kok Lake communities after the company cleared their communities so that they could commercially develop the sites.
This centre opened under the management of the Cambodian Kids Foundation in January 2010. Previously the Rudi Boa Centre was under the management of Bridges Across Borders, however due to a lack of rapport with the community they handed it over to CKF knowing that CKF had previously done a lot of work with the communities living at this site.

There are currently 1600 families living at this location without proper shelter, sufficient water, electricity, jobs, health care and schools.

The Rudi Boa Centre will provide informal classes in sanitation and basic health, sports and recreation, leadership and life skills to the children and their parents who live in the target community.

The Rudi Boa Centre continually develops ways to meet the informal educational needs of the community’s children and parents at Borey Santepheap II through weekly free programs and activities including English, Khmer, art, football, basic health and hygiene, dental care, leadership skills, life skills and education about child protection.

Attitude Centre for Education
This centre provides training in developing positive attitudes, leadership skills, job seeking skills, information on reproductive health and child protection to youth (age 15-26 years) in the community. This program is targeted to help the large number of unemployed and disenfranchised youth who experience or perpetuate abuse, violence, early pregnancy and who have no life plan.

What are they doing next?

Plant it Forward
CKF recognizes the need to teach communities the importance of helping themselves and building stronger communities. The idea is to empower the Cambodian people to be leaders in the future.

The Plant it Forward project, is an exciting new initiative, which will teach youngsters from our Saing Sy School, and surrounding villages, the basics of vegetable growing and garden maintenance.

Plant it Forward will:
-Teach the students a fun and exciting skill.
-Allow them to be proud of their contribution to their community.
-Provide an additional food source for the community to share.
-Teach students from a young age, a skill they can use to support their families, and even profit from.
-Bring the knowledge learnt from the students, back to their families and spread throughout the community.

Highlights & Successes.

A. Hundreds of children from “Mous Village”, who never had an opportunity to go to school, are now in school wearing their first ever uniform and playing in a soccer team.

B. 6 months ago Mous Village at Saing Sy centre did not have a school and were children were dying from infection. Today 638 children attend the school

C. Cambodian Kids Foundation (CKF) has been helping the people of Cambodia since 2006. The Foundation has provided emergency assistance through food, water and shelter, but the primary focus has always been education.

Only a couple of weeks left, pls spread the word, line up is sick and should be a wicked day

This is Pong Phen who my friend Sue - who is helping me put on the event - sponsors with a pic from this week

Had some pretty sad news this week...

'Sadly, yesterday we lost one of our precious children from Mous Village.
This is sad sad news and as you can imagine Donna, Sam, myself and our whole team in Cambodia are very saddened by this.

His name was Kimyeng Yin and he was about 20 months old. He was lost in a tragic accident. This is a sad time for this family, all of Mous Village, all the Saing Sy staff and students, and our whole CKF family. His funeral is being held today and we want to make sure it is so special and is beautiful for the little guy and his family. Lets make sure this happens, we are asking our whole CKF team to contribute. Our team in Cambodia has already put money towards it, we should do the same here in Australia. We need to support this family as best as we can in this time.'

I try to avoid spamming as much as i can on facebook 'cos i know its shit, but if you're coming along it would be wicked if you could invite anyone you think that may be interested
