Does your computer show rpm? And do you wear a chest band for heart rate?

Cadence sensor sits inside your left pedal opposite to the speed sensor magnet.

Heart rate monitor included in the kit

cadence - I haven't worked out how to display it whilst riding and heart rate only displays for when you're on incline page.

Pretty cool as it gives you the gradient of the hill your on though

12% was the steepest yesterday and it was farken tough!!

Has anyone here restored any old bikes? I have an old bennett 80's road bike lying around and I wanna have a crack at doing it up... any tips? web-resources? not fussed about shit like decals etc, not going for that authentic restoration... thinking just turning it into a single speed/fixie. the thing is pretty rusted, but I reckon the frame is still good.

There has to be a way to display your cadence whilst riding - that's the point of it. Sounds good though mate.

Did the 1 in 20 for the first time today http://theclimbingcyclist.com/climbs/mt ... e-1-in-20/

Didn't find it as hard as I thought I would.....have never really done a proper climb before and got to the top with heaps left in the tank

Bugger all traffic, epic lush scenery, and a mad fast descent back in to The Basin

Most fun I've ever had on a bike

Haha I was waiting for someone to ask me that

I didn't time myself mate. Never do when I ride. At this stage I still don't ride with a computer. When I get my funds right I'm gonna buy a Bryton or a Garmin, but TBH I'm only gonna use it for the GPS. Have never given a rats about cadence/heart rate/distance travelled etc.........I just pace myself, get into a rhythm and ride til I'm knackered

would love to ride it - might put it on the list for when I'm down in October to ride with my dad.

if you're keen - Direkt, myself, obliveus and my dad are doing around the bay as a group in October. get on board if you want in - 210km leg queenscliff start.

210Kms on a fixie don't sound that fun tbh... I guess it depends on how long and/or steep the climbs are.

Coming downhill along the back road in winter is awesome. They have it closed off for snow season so you can use the whole road and get some pretty crazy speed up down the mountain ;) Watch out for some of the tight little hairpins tho!

I've never done around the bay before, but by all accounts it's pretty flat

Pretty sure you'd be more likely to run into trouble with wind, which can be pretty shithouse near the coast

Another thing to think about would be riding harmoniously with a bunch. If you've only got one gear it can be hard to adjust to changes in intensity. If you did it fixed that also adds another element of risk with emergency stops etc

Andy White, the guy behind Fyxomatosis, reckons he used to do bunch rides fixed. He also reckons that after a while he was politely asked to make like a tree

just a thought - I'm not sure on the first half for hills, the Sorrento - City side has a couple towards the start after that it's not too bad.

stick a 54t on there and you'd be pushing 90 gear inches (uphill leg death tho). also going downhill would be lols.

The Bellarine side is pretty much flat (mebbe some hills in the 250km option?) The Mornington side has Balcombe Hill/Mt Martha/etc. in the middle. It was my favourite part, although, I was on a mountain bike :lolidiot:. I somehow dun think it would be much fun on a fixie.

The headwinds riding up Beach road are an absolute cunt. Very glad I only had to deal with them on training rides, especially since the year I did it was when it was freakishly hot with strong north winds.

For peeps doing ATB, the hot tip is to not actually go around the bay at all, but do Sorrento return. Sitting on the ferry does not do good things. Fuck, I thought I was going to die afterwards.

i did this last year on the one side, not officially but close - Chelsea - Sorrento - City - Chelsea.

what was the downfall with the ferry retz?

You sit still for about an hour, eat lunch and your whole body decides the ride is over. I dunno. I tend to have fairly epic fails of blood sugar after major exercise and having to get back on the bike for another 100km after the crash was not fun. I reckon short stops and small snacks only would have been better. That being said, I think riding the last 50km in that fucken headwind would have actually killed me.

I should note that I was probably the utterly crappest of crap riders to finish ATB that day. I hadn't been riding much that year, never had been a road cyclist, did 3 months training, had a face-smushing stack a couple of weeks beforehand and only had a mountain bike :tard:  :tard:
