Are there any tunes that you just can't seem to mix in time?

Alot of Kemal tunes are tricky to mix cos he uses sooo much random sounding precussion.
I kissed a squirrel and I liked it... taste of her acorn chapstick
Every tune....

The start of Temple of Doom from Fresh - that wierd Indian percussion just doesn't sit right in my head...
The start of Papua New Guinea (High Contast RMX) - up until Cliffery showed me, I didn't think it was a 4/4 time sig. It is - just that the stabs don't always go on the downbeat...
I definately feel like Calstro (with his comment) a lot of the time though!!!!

I don't know if you guys are really into dubby house stuff but a few Kangos Stein Massiv records I got are sluts to mix... one of my mates summed it up "it's just echo effects and random drums... it's like a song made of nothing"
I know what you mean though sometimes if there's delay on just one hat or some shit it sounds like ming.

" It seems that when the bombs fall..." do dodo do dooo.. I love horns in DnB
Have you noticed also that the vocals seem out of time if the drums are in and vice versa? Or is it just me?

Can't Punish Me - Dom and Roland - I have never got that one right (Keir did at Kombat Radio, I shoudla been paying more attention and saw you do it).
Konflict - Messiah (Original rmx) - No hi hat markers or nothing and unless you just wanna drop it in at the "aahhhhhhhhhh" without the ambient bit at the start, its real hard to get but if you do that its pointless cause you need to hear that one coming in.

U cue "Cant punish Me" at that Deeeeer Deee Deee Dooo bit at the start.....works everytime.johnnynostars wrote:I reckon you gotta skip the confusering intro and just cue it up at the strings...ctoafn_DMZ wrote:Can't Punish Me - Dom and Roland - I have never got that one right (Keir did at Kombat Radio, I shoudla been paying more attention and saw you do it).
Theres a J-Laze tune on Focuz called 'Naomi's tune' and if u wanna skip alot of synths at the start and cut to the beats the cue point is nestled in this delayed bongo sample.....i dunno where but I kinda gotta aim for the middle of the sample for the beats to come out right. Production is tight and u gotta key match as for alot of atmos. stuff but it comes out so ace when done right.
Beachdrifta is another tricky one. U gotta match that piano, strings + bassline with no beats then bang...the beats start. The bassline is enuff to go with though.

Um, yes, i remember that. Hence my rule of leaving the last tune of the previous set to play until the end is actually useful when playing after Fred M...Fents wrote:Or venetian snares that time FMF dropped it and made u mix into it...on tour wrote:Treat Me Mean on Hospital is always a fun one to mix...
We will chant with robes on you will learn...
But its not like u have ever left someone like say ummm Rux with a FLAT OUT FUCKED tune to mix into is it lex??? ohhhh no u would never do that???on tour wrote:Um, yes, i remember that. Laroque: Goldfinger, is always a bit of a cunny as is DJ Zinc: Freenote. actually i lie, freenote is pretty easy.
Dope Skillz: New Skull is just pressed wrong. there is a wasted bar @ the start of the song that you need to skip. but is an easy tune to mix.
but yeah by far the hardest tune i have ever popped into a set was
Aphex Twin: To Cure A Weakling Child, Contour Regard the stereo panning @ the start just puts you right off but awesome tune!

For mixing purposes I usually stick with Nu Tone RMX of this as it doesn't have that drum role sample in it anywhere It's also a very nice relick with some extra smooth keys added, and the bass really improved too. Hmmmm think I might play this out tonight now I've been thinking bout it.

or just mix every tune in the drop out or the fade out, only trainspotters give a fuck anyhow......Fents wrote:But its not like u have ever left someone like say ummm Rux with a FLAT OUT FUCKED tune to mix into is it lex??? ohhhh no u would never do that???on tour wrote:Um, yes, i remember that. The best way to cure a broken heart is to give the pieces away
That's a good point FW, 1 of the best DJ's I've ever seen, the almighty Keb Darge, didn't worry about tight beatmixes, cause every track he played was absolute FUNKin brilliance, he'd just fade out, tell the crowd what the next track is (which is cool, heaps o'DJ's are far to precious about what tunes are in their box. e.g-Freq Nasty wouldn't tell me who the breaks remix of 'Inner city Life' was done by, which led me to believe it was him..)
& continue to FUNK our brains out, no-one remembers your mixes( unless your a mash-up whizz a-la-2ManyDj's), if your tunes are wicked enough..
Has anyone else heard the 'Legend of the Pissbucket' regarding Keb?
