Good places to stay in Sydney

Post by Hekuma »

Heading up to Sydney in a couple of weeks, and wondering if anyone knows of some nice places/areas to stay??? Having not been there in a billion years Ive got no clue where anything is...

At the moment, I'm thinking maybe the Meriton Rialto Apartments, Star City, Vibe Hotel, or The York... ???????????

The George Hotel... $60 a night, 2 beds, communal kitchen w/TV, and communal Bathroom, just down the hall. Right in the centre of the city, and they allow crack pipe smoking in all rooms, well, they didn't stop us 2 years ago. :P

PM System

He'll tell you not only where's good to stay but also what's happening in the beats scene whilst your there.

I usually stay in the city when there for work and with mates in Paddinton when up there to play. Anywhere round Glebe or Newtown (like Fitzroy/Collingwood), Potts Point (like St Kilda back packer styles) etc has plenty going on and shop have cheap sleeps.

I'm up there heaps.. so if you want some decent things to do/go/check out.. hit me up via PM :D

here's my critique

radisson city - awesome. very central.
vibe north sydney - not bad. 2 mins from work ... nth sydney is a deadzone after 5pm
vibe rushcutters bay - average but decent location in terms of kings x and bondi junction
sebel pier 1 - awesome and nice and close to the rocks and circular quay.
intercontinental - awesome. very plush. not for budget conscious!
rydges nth sydney - trash. horrible business hotel
harbourview nth sydney - 80's. great view but complete shit
medina apartments surrey hills - awesome if there's 2-3 people. massive rooms. really liked this place
shangri-la circular quay - amazing. best view ever.
Medina Newtown - stayed here with Thayer about 3 years ago and it wasn't too crash hot. Cool trolleys to steal at 4am when you get back trashed!
The W - Wooloomooloo - THE SHIT!!! Right near Russel Crowe's place.
Quest Apartments City - best value for money. Big rooms with 2 br's and a spa and a kitchen for $180 a night.

don't go near star city - it's a fuckin dive!!! makes crown look like monaco.

we always get complaints about vibe (ex rushcutters harbourside)... the walls are paper thin and you can hear everything in the next room.

i'm surprised people recommend the george too... crappy service there! rude staff...

best hotels in syd imo and the ones we use regularly:

the establishment - http://www.merivale.com/establishment/hotel
the w - http://www.starwoodhotels.com/whotels/s ... rtyID=1295
sebel peir one - http://www.mirvachotels.com.au/details.asp?hotelID=26

The W ROCKS!!!

Stayed there a little while back. Got treated like a fuckin' rock star from the minute we walked in. They organised free entry and chaperone(sp?) service to every club we wanted to hit(which in Sydney at 25 a pop actually means something) They even organised us to meet with the 'right' people who could take care of all our party needs!

Sat down to a nice cocktail session only to be told at the end of it after clocking up a healthy drinks bill was that it was all on the house!!! wtf? It was like living inside of some fucked up serreal dream.

To top it all off we had lunch with Bill Clinton.(the table next to him anyways) That was a bizzare and amusing look at how that whole U.S. president thing works.

So yeah, you could do a hell of alot worse than staying at the W.

The rooms were too super cool too. 8) 8) 8)

billy kwong is great, but get in early or you'll be waiting for tiiiiiiime. there's heaps of good places on crown street: red lantern, nepalese kitchen, clock tower, trinity bar, etc. devonshire street (near the corner of crown) has 'mohr fish', which is awesome.

let me know which end of town you're staying in and i can give you more specific tips.

The Swiss Grande - Bondi. Haven't stayed there, but have been to a wedding reception there - have wanted to stay there for some time.

I've only stayed at Medina apartments; Coogee and Chinatown. They were pretty nice. Coogee more so.

Right on the beach.

Well the one i suggested is like 245 for a Queen room, 2 adults. And it's SCHMICK!!

Awesome area, close to the rocks, Walsh/Welsh bay, which is like my favourite part of Sydney.. (I've only been a couple of times but I loved it)
