Devo are one of my most hated bands of all time... not meaning to rain on anyone's parade - just felt the need to express that.

I want to go.. but wouldn't mind hearing some reports of previous events.

It's not cheap.. here's an example.

$200 for event ticket
$130 for camping (4 days)
$100 return flight melbourne to brisbane (jetstar)
$90 bus brisbane to byron and return

$520 without spending anything on booze or food.

I've been for the last 2 years, tho i think the line up is a bit weak for me this year and might give it a miss.

last year i organised the whole thing for myself and 3 others, we got away with it for $580 each incl
ticket
flights (to/from Coolangatta)
6 days accom in a rental house
car hire

we stayed in Ballina the first time, and last year near Kingscliff, both are about 30/45 min drive from Belongil which isn't too bad cos at least you get to leave the dickhead crowds behind at the end of each day. Plus you then get clean toilets and a shower!!
If it is raining, definitely take gumboots, if it is sunny, take wet ones and sunnies, dust goes EVERYWHERE! Bad news for contact wearers!

yep, have been 3 times in the last 6 years. if you go with a crew, you'll have a great time. camping can be a fun way to do the SITG experience, but be prepared for muchos late night shenanigans.

That new song that's on JJJ every 30 seconds "striiingth iin nooombes!". makes me stab harder.

Also recal similar side effects from their other popular songs too.

Whip it is the least of their songs. They are much, much better than that.

Wait until you hear Mongaloid and you realise how much breaks producers ripped these guys off...

* * *

I saw them in Melbourne last night...

I'm not a fan, wasn't expecting much, but for a band of fat, 60 somethings, they sure know how to rock!

One of the best shows I've seen - up there with Pixies last year.
Ready to drop, Audio rock, here comes the boy from the South!

HUGE.

ridiculous amounts of vodka on friday in the slate bar with our 20yo awesome camping neighbours
3 hours sleep = painful Saturday :( struggled to get into it until about 6
took forever to pick myself up... hadouken were AWESOME... but couldn't lift my head :S
felt like like death until the fratellis! they were best band for the sat for me!

pnau blew the fucking stage apart sat night!! mix up tent was absolutely HEAVING!
8 hours pass out sleep = refreshed for sunday
vampire weekend!! they were fucking AWESOME! had a mad sing along!
then wombats blew vampire off the stage!!!! HUGE HUGE HUGE! awesome crowd awesome live band 8)

lyrics born! FUCK YEAH! smashed his shit! had it going on like a mad khunt.. few new tracks! but i was off guts by then and screaming my arse off with a packed mixup tent!

presets.... fuck me... if i thought pnau was heaving then this tent just about bounced its way to brisbane!!!
WENT OFF. loud as fuck! up for it crowd! PUMPED

i had an incredible time. the weather was fantastic and the people i was with were amazing.(special shouts to gabe and his bender outfit.)

the acts were good on the whole, as were the punters. i'd never heard of the wombats or vampire weekend before last week, but i'm a firm fan of both now. otherwise, pnau, devo, polyphonic spree, the panics, the presets, the grates (hilarious moments in their set), katalyst, tp and lyrics born

tricky and sigur mo fo ros, though. highlights of the festival by far.
