QUEENS BIRTHDAY FUNK, SOUL & J-RED 45 SET @ FIRST FLOOR!
QUEENS BIRTHDAY FUNK, SOUL & J-RED 45 SET @ FIRST FLOOR!
Look, in a moment of claritive (is that a word?) soul searching, I realized that nobody on this site ever comes to anything I'm involved with other than those I book (Lob, Lindemon, Brain, Snowie, etc).
I'm not having a go at anyone, cuz it's not like I attend anything any of you put on. I'm pretty upfront with people that unless I'm playing the gig, I wont make it. I got kids, full time job, own a business, etc, so making it out when I'm playing a gig is hard enough (understanding wife helps), let alone making it out just to attend a club night. I'm sure most of you are in the same boat and I understand this, which really makes all of the music threads I've started over the years on this site one great, big giant ego stroke.
So here I go again with another thread entirely bumped by 2, maybe 3, others. If you didn't know, I'm part of a funk, soul, Motown type night on Sundays. I play sporadically due to my full-time job teaching high school kids, but always play the public holiday nights...of which, there's one coming up.
It's Queens Birthday Sunday. Myself and Blackbird are the two behind it. We've managed to secure the almighty J-Red for a funky 45 set. Yep! You read correctly. He's not playing Serato or Final Scratch.
He's playing a 2-hour set of nothing but 45 rpm 7" singles and if you've ever withnessed or heard him do this before then you'd know how dope it's going to be. Added to this will be new, live funk band on the scene, To The Bridge! These dudes are wicked and will be impressive.
So if yer not doing much on Queens Birthday Sunday or if you happen to find yourself on Brunswick Street after, say around 2am (a time I chose for no other reason than I like the number 2), come see if one of the venues that got one of those late license things is still open. There might be one on Brunswick Street so you could theoretically make it in after 2am if you happen to find one of these clubs...that's open after 2am...on Brunswick Street...maybe if yer lucky. I'm not promoting that FIRST FLOOR WILL BE OPEN AFTER 2AM. They've also got an outdoor smoking area that wont force you out on the street.
Word to the wise...if you do plan on coming down to First Floor and you dont want to pay to get in, you will need to be on the guest list. It's going to be even more rammed there late than normal. Just PM me names if yer interested.

Should be an awesome funk-fueled night.
Can you tell Ms Blackbird that I finally got around to buying her favorite funk track of all time: 'I don't know what it is but it sure is funky' by Ripple.
Funny thing is that I was playing the track out the other night and some punter asked me what the name of the song was.
'I don't know what it is but it sure is funky' I replied.
'Well when you find out come and tell me' he said.

Reading about them is fine with me...DBoy wrote:I always read about your events if that helps?
Hey, get this. I was supervising a Year 11 exam today and one of the students had finished so he was listening to his iPod. I walked up to have a listen and see what he was into and guess who it was?
Beduion Soundclash!!!
'When the night feels my song'
I was so impressed. I'd told him about them last year and he went and found them on My Space and bought their album, too. He loves them. Chalk one up for Mr Ryan swaying a whole new generation towards good music. Funny thing, he's emo, too.

I do come to some of your gigs btw, just not many, and rarely on purpose!!
I've been waiting for you to notice.sAme'0 wrote:roflobliveus wrote:We dont joke about dubstep. We respect all music. Plus, Petey's going to have a postal experience sometime in his lifetime and I want to make sure the hate's pointed directly at Snowie.nic wrote:No where's the dubstep jokes yet?
