The Operatives & Roxanne Parlour : The Nextmen FriApril 24th

The Operatives and Roxanne Parlour Present The Nextment

You may have heard of The Nextmen. In fact, unless you’ve been captive in Guantanamo Bay for the most of the Noughties, we’d wager you’d definitely heard of them and more than likely witnessed them at one of their many festival-stopping summer performances or heard their incendiary mixtapes on the neighbourhood ghetto blaster. The production/songwriting hip-hop duo consisting of Dom Search (aka Dominic Betmead) and Brad Baloo (aka Brad Ellis). Born and raised in Cambridge, they are based in London. Their music fuses U.K. soul and reggae with a hip-hop foundation. With 3 superb albums under their belt and now their fourth on the way, well it’s time to see them live in action and get some serious on-air edits.

My email interview with Brad Baloo is live!

With an opening answer like this, I'm pissed I missed chatting to him on the phone because of work..

We don't really look at what others are doing when putting together mixes. We just work with music that we love, which is more than I can say for a lot of new DJs who play any trendy trollop in every direction without any real affection for good music. It takes more than the Goonies soundtrack, some Jethro Tull samples, a bunch of Ed Banger 12s and some wet look leggings to really rock a crowd of music lovers

Had a great night, even though my shoulder was giving me grief.

Was actually surprised when the room cleared noticeably when Nextmen started playing dubstep...

I thought I was the only person with who doesn't like it in Melbourne, but it appears I was wrong!

I had a great night too.... I wasn't overly impressed by the Nextmen tbh. hardly any real mixing going on.. disjointed set full of standard floor-filler tracks played drop to drop.. Good genre spectrum I guess, just no flow.

I liked the Mayvin Gaye tunes at the end
