New External Hard Drive purchase help

Post by Direkt »

Hey tech-heads,

Looking to get an external hard drive so that I can reformat my computer, and use it for future backup (bigup K. Rudd). Have checked out MSY's site for some pricing, was wondering if there's much difference between brands, or if there's anything in particular I should look out for... I'll be wanting 1TB.

MSY:
Verbatim 3.5" 1TB: $182
WD 3.5" Elements 1TB: $176
WD 3.5" Mybook Office 1TB: $199
Seagate 3.5" Freeagent Desktop 1TB: $195

Cheers.

they're all pretty much of a muchness but is worth googling the brand, or model with a common keyword complaint to see if one or the other is likely to fail on you.

warranty on hard drives is a bit LOLsworthy though, do they pay for the generally more expensive data recovery if they fuck up?

Cheers unsoundbwoy.

Strange that it's the more expensive of the two WD drives.

Looks like Seagate it is.

Where have priced the elements from?,

ive got both the WD elements 1tb and the seagate freeagent 1tb drives. both are great speed wise, the freeagent takes a few seconds more to spin up tho.

^ so based on the price and your experience, you'd recommend the Elements over the Seagate?

PS: do these HD's come with a case, or will I need to purchase one of those also?

all of those you listed are external and already have a case. do a google search and have a look at them to see what they look like. they are all totally different.

seagate 3 year warranty wins
