BEATS WORKING @ MERCAT CROSS HOTEL!!! // SAT NOV 19TH!!!
BEATS WORKING @ MERCAT CROSS HOTEL!!! // SAT NOV 19TH!!!
Party people, we’ve gone and done it again. Yep, Melbourne’s longest running, monthly breaks party has moved homes for the 4th time in as many years. In our ever-growing fondness to push the boundaries and give our loyal crew something new, we’ve secured the rights to one of the best-kept secrets in town. The Mercat Cross will now be our new home and if you’ve been there before when it was Deep 11, let’s just say the place has changed for the better.
Gia’s come in and set up a new sound system that eclipses anything we’ve played on in the past and the NEW OWNERS have poured some serious cash into renovating the basement where we’ll be doing our thing. Gone is the bad paint job, crumbling walls, old sofas and scorched table tops and in is new, funky furniture, mini-TV’s (you’ve got to see them to fully respect what they’ll be doing) and a serious upgrade of certain facilities. The place is absolutely perfect for us; smaller than Brown Alley, but big enough to fit all of you in. Our first impression was…â€It’s like the Laundry used to be, only in a basement.â€
So it’s all systems go for Beats Working as we’ll be traveling into our 5th year of existence with a new venue and a new member with Scott “I’ve been known to dabble in porn†Feigan. The man’s been a big gasp of fresh air for us and he’s fit right into the family circle from the word go. In addition to Feigan, the usual line-up of bogan breakbeat boffins, The Enforcers; an eclectic Asianary shoe salesman, Hans-DC; and the fat American, Obliveus, will be on the decks, mic, gadgets, gizmos and bootlegs.
So make sure yer free on the 19th of November to check out the new venue and new vibe. We’re heading back to the underground (literally) and want you to be part of it. Word to the wise, capacity at the Mercat is considerably smaller than Brown Alley (only 250 max) so make sure you’re there at 10:00pm or risk not getting in.
Beats Working @ Mercat Cross Hotel (Downstairs). Saturday November 19th (every 3rd Saturday of the month – please note the change), 10PM – 5AM. $5 Guest list or $10 general entry. For guest list addition, email: [email protected]. For more info, try: www.beatsworking.com.au.

Nah, I knew where "digger" comes from. I had to teach Australian History on my first teaching rounds. But I just figured that it's been morphed into something close to the meaning of "cobber". I'm even more confused now.deviant wrote:digga comes from WW1 and Galipoli.... the sodiers were called "diggers" because of all the trenches they had to dig... It's stuck as a "matey" sort of term... No friggin' idea where "cobber" comes from but I like it
some mates of mine in a group called the Smart Artisans did a track last year on their cd called 'Digga in a Bodybag'. it's about australia's support for the war in iraq
as for cobber who knows, but I do like it
It reminds me of when I was in primary school and every day on the walk there I would pass an old man in his garden and he would say to me everyday without fail 'good morning bill' to which I would answer, 'my name is rob' and he would reply, 'sure it is cobber', then the next day it would start all over again
one time I saw him on ANZAC day in his old uniform, so he waas also a diggeer!!

I'm going to miss the old deep 11obliveus wrote:Gone is the bad paint job, crumbling walls, old sofas and scorched table tops
But the new makeover does look sweet
The only normal people are the ones you don't know very well
Nah, man. Can't have you spreading misinformation like that. It took me 3 weeks to teach that damn monkey how to talk like me and now he's, like, the coolest dude in town with chicks hanging off his every word. He's so...er, oops, you said "orangatang" didn't you? I thought you were talking about Scott Feigan. My bad.Scotrod wrote:For those that have scene OB's Orangatang Experience, it may have been a little confusing.
Remember - the Orangatang is the one that doesn't say "dude".
Yeah they're sort of similar, minus the little tv screens. I headed along to mercat last friday night as drunk as a skunk, and i was like, what's with these screens?? The lucid guys could have a lot of fun with those.obliveus wrote:Isn't bunker the old Basement 407 place that Drew held a few parties at back in the day? If it is, yeah, they're about the same size. Nice and small!sAme'0 wrote:nice one ob, kind of sounds like bunker with 250 capacity and in a basement...
