i just did the dumbest thing

Post by unsoundbwoy »

I've been working on a track for about a fortnight now. a full dancehall track, a version built in with lotsa nice edits, fairly intricate synth work and a highah seekah vocal on top. was getting pretty happy with it.
then i wrote this break i really liked and decided to save it seperately, deleted all the other channels. thought i'd saved it as a new name
checked my email was about to go to bed because im fucking tired, went back into the sequencer went to close and it asked if i wanted to save.
I HIT YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
UFCK I JUST SAVED OVER TWO WEEKS OF WORK WITH A FUCKING TECH-STEP STYLE LOOP!!!
FOUR FUCKING BARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

all i can do is laugh really

hehe dumbass

everyone should take this as a reminder to be vigilant and backup
its easy to fall out of good habits

Incredibly nerdy, but I've thought about using version control like Perforce before for my audio projects.. :D

Isn't there windows recovery mode that resets the comp back to when you want? I've heard some sort of talk along those lines... otherwise ^R&(%^$*

I've even wiped stuff accidently using tape, so its not a new thing to lose great musical ideas.
Funniest one I've heard of is Keef Richards when he lived in France circa late 60's - he was so smashed all thwe time that he would write cool riffs and then nod off before recording them.only to wake up and not be abel to remember how they went.
Just as well you're not a junkie huh? :teef:

they need a pop up that says "are you sure you want to choose yes... Think about it!!!" after you initially press the yes button...

Or a dialogue box when you first start up the app

"Are you planning on drinking or smoking while operating this software? Yes/No"

Then if you click yes, popups work like this:

"Are you sure you want to quit? This will lose all changes to your session. Yes/No"

Yes

"... Seriously man. You just clicked Yes. You want to ditch *EVERYTHING*? Yes/No."

Yes

"Just to confirm you're not going to make a mistake, let's check for consistency. Do you not, not want to un-save your work? Yes/No"
