I have a little idea, and no its not a competition. How about all the "up and comers" plus bedroom DJ's get a mix together, have someone ro get details where we can host it, start a thread with purely those mixes and everyone can down load and check em out??????????

Its gunna be a good way to show your skills to the peeps on the website (lots of which seem to be promoters as well), introduce new people to the website by sending links to friends you want to DL your set plus you get to see what the other newbies are up to - plus anyone downloading it gets to listen to some new shit. Anyone keen?

The AR nites were awesome fun, a wicked place to earn some stripes behind the decks and a good excuse to drink large quantities of beer!!! You (I'm happy to help again) gotta get something going again Keiran.

I think it was Lynt who said it best. No promoter is gonna book you based on a mix done in your bedroom

I'll agree with that BrB ... however it's just another way of getting your sound out, and I'd vote for anything that'd help people get noticed.

And yeah, a thread could easily be started in the mixes forum for it.

I agree, but having a good mix in the mixes forum might be a good way of getting people to come check you out at open decks / a night you've organised / a night you are playing at.

At the end of the day it's all about creating interest in yourself, and a good mix people listen to is a good way of doing that.

My 2 cents

It's more about who you know that who knows you.

Majority of my gigs have come from a strong contact network and also assisting on the promoting side of putting on parties.

Running your own night certainly gives you a solid grounding, but promoters who are putting on a night have one major focus which is getting heads through the door in most situations from what I have experienced.

The bigger your contact base is and the more people that will come and see you play the better opportunity you have.

I wish that it was all based on the music and not on how many peeps come through the door.

Point BRB Not saying they are gunna get big gigs from simply posting on a forum, it would be good to get their sound to a wider audience so that say, they do the hards yards and get booked, when their name is on a flyer, people can recognise thru their mix set, who the hell they are and if they liked them, to head on down to the venue and support them instead of starting from scratch when tryiong to build a name up for themselves with the punters. Also, if prmoters happen to catch the sets on here, its a foot in the door when talking to the promoters when at clubs/bars etc if they've already heard their stuff.

Hmmm, I think Feigan tells it like it is. Still, extra exposure via online mixes can't hurt.

I think you misunderstood me, I wasn't saying NOT to post your mixes, I was just pointing you in the right direction. you'll find that 95% of the mixes posted in that forum are from up n comers.

Feigan speaks the truth. It's hilarious how many gigs I've been offered and I've never mixed two records together in my entire life

I will do a mix in the very near future, when im absolutely happy with it I'll chuck it onto mb. I think Kier did it best by planning and practicing a killer set, untill he perfected it, much respect to him

BOH to this thread.....finally sat down now and read the whole thing.

I reckon the black cat for open decks would be an excellent way of starting shit off for you. ma 2c.

I think its ultimately about getting over insecurities and fear of DnB critics and getting the cd's out to people, mixes put on here.......

Stir the pot - I dont think there is such a thing as too much talent playing in Melbourne, the more the better - healthy competition - the more quality the more attention and more love.

I for one am proud of a lot of local talent here. Perhaps some of them are even mates.......

The Lyrics Born kick and flip was off hook as was playig some Nuts for us.

Anyone know who this is?

http://www.tranzfusion.net

We would be happy to host them. I am always on the look out for new mixes. Any genre. We stream mixes on the site, and I hand over the good ones we get to Nicole @ Triple J. (and in 80% of cases she plays the mix on her mix up show or club foote on saturday nights - awesome exposure!)

Can also set up an artist profile page (its free) and you get your own URL to the site. eg. http://www.tranzfusion.net/danmangan

Every month or so I choose an artist to feature. The current feature Tigger, is a prime example of someone who sends me his mixes, impressed me and the team so much that we have made him a feature. Feature means prime possie on the front page, me promoting the feature/mix around the traps and a shout out in our e-zine (which goes out to over 20,000 internationally)

We also have a "featured" mix spot which changes every 2 weeks or so.

Shoot me an email for more details, but would love to hear from some of you if you are wanting to get out there.

Yeah Welli is cool, only city in NZ I'd want to live in anymore I think.

While [back] on the [sub] topic of mixes and open decks nights, I'll be playing breaks at Black Cat tonight either from 9 till around 10 (maybe a bit before if others turn up).

People wanting to hear the PMT 1799 (1979 smashing pumpkins bit) and other PMT/False Prophet goodness now is the time. Thinking I'm gonna keep it Marine Paradeish tonite.

Blah blah blah, blag blag blah.

Kaiser up after me bringing the liquid and funk dnb styles and then Johnny Hooves bringing the harder end (if he doesn't have a drumming gig and Will actually told him)

Maybe Firey somewhere in there with some more breakbeat action, not sure.

And that would be me. I'm gonna be in the area tonight scouting for a location for my mates birthday bash, so I'll possibly pop down for a bit.

^Also agreed, that shify guys set was pretty good... played alot of plumps and the like but hey the punters dug it myself included

Agreed. Im not the hugest fan of Plumps, but Shifty had the crowd worked right up. His scratching ability was a bonus too.

I just remembered some strange scratching going on during Evils set, it sounded like the same scratch being being looped over and over....what was going on with it?

Yeah not so sure on his turntablism as such but as I said he rocked the party, the place was pumping around midnight, so everyone's a winner...

I had friends there who knew him and apparently he's from Bendigo, don't think he's played a ton in the past... I've certainly never seen him 'cept for gimme a break once at the old venue...

Yip, he's a Bendigo lad originally but been in M town for quite a few years now.

Has been playing for a quite a while. He used to play with us in the Sumo days at the old Scubar a few years back and he's been playing with the Gimme crew every second month since it began.

Good to hear props going out to one of the most rockin' and straight up nice guys of the scene. :D :smt002

It's a suburb of Bendigo, yeah.

I'm a Strathdale boy. Kenny Rez is my stompin' ground. Hehe.
