D'N'B Producers makin Dubstep

Post by Hatsudai »

Heard some of Tech Itch's stuff:

http://www.hardtofindrecordsrecordstore ... 3006_1.mp3

and ASC is dabbling:

http://www.myspace.com/ascintexsystems

(tune called the depths)

Both of these examples are really nice tunes and you can tell straight away they are TI/ASC tunes.

Anyone know any other D'N'B producers trying thier hand at dubstep?

You should hear the minimal techno that ASC has been writing. Madness. The dubstep is insane. :)

There's a few other guys doing it: Mav, Third Rail and a few others spring immediately to mind.

Apparently zinc is pretty into dubstep. I heard a remix he did of a dubstep tune. Can't remember what it was though....

thats a typical reaction you would have been confronted with many times when in conversation about your beloved dnb Pam, like drum n bass, sift through the shit and you will find some gems.

Hmm...I wouldn't put it like that.

Theres not much shit dubstep about....theres hardly enough dubstep around at all....But yea...95% of drum&bass nowadays is shite.

I would say dubstep is like dnb, where you either hate it or love it.
and
Dubstep like dnb is one of those things that needs to be heard on an excessively big sound system.
well maybe not quality wise but as Denis Dunito would say "its all about the vibe", and there is alot of dubstep choonz although i can appreciate the production, i just dont feel much, yet having said that there are some dubstep choonz going round at the mo that im feeling alot more than any of the dnb choonz being released at the mo.

Is that a fair call oh great king of melbourne dubstep?

yer Chase & status did wise up too. but i wouldnt quite go as far to say its dubstep. More that breakbeat Garage stuff Zinc did after realising how sucessful 138 Trek was.

Also the Brockie tune was by him and Ed Solo called-Brockout if i remember rightly.

I wouldnt go as far as saying there is alot of good dubstep around atm. I feel its just starting to find its feet. Imo theres alot of shit out, and some of the tunes under Twisted Individuals Alias are about 3-4 years old.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a shitload more DnB Producers dabbling into Dubstep, but i was surprised to hear that Skynet is having a crack...wicked!

BTW Steve i totally agree with the DnB output at the moment, i have to say i've hardly listened to DnB for a month or two now, mostly Dubstep and Hip Hop fills my ears!

The Ascension tune that's the flip to the Tech Itch tune (which i think is pretty boring) is the badness...

the early tempa records were great
i found it pretty fresh at a time when breaks seemed to be stagnating a bit

Id say im pretty into dubstep, but I think Iv gotta hear it on massive speakers before it 'bites' properly, I find it a bit frustrating withoit being able to hear / feel big subs at home.

Agree, Vexd has alot of breaks crossover material as well, a bit more noddable, which is important when you are out, being able to nod that is.

Shows you don't know me that well Dean boy, I'm not into just drum n bass, fark I'm not that narrow minded. Yes, yes sift, sift but it all depends on how much sifting you want to do.

Nah I don't mean dabbling as mucking around but dabbling as in making stuff/trying his hand at :)

Already stated in this thread how much I love the tune (and over at cov ops forum) the word "dabble" wasn't meant as an insult/looking down down on the tune!!

Any of ur down tempo tunes available to listen to Mr Hooves? Would like to have a listen :smt020

Ez D, i never claimed to know you well with such comments and to extract that as well as a reference to being narrow minded from my post is an over analysis. The statement was made with the assumption that you would be able to relate to the frustration of a small genre gaining credibility amongst others. I found it some time before i could attain an appreciation for dubstep, partly due to the fact i had yet to hear a broad range of styles or producers. If you have listened to what you consider is an ample amount to base an opinion on this music then cool you have every write to make such comments. Yet the genre is still quite small thus its going to be an effort to even hear this on a decent sound system let alone spend the time looking for the gems in the porcelain bowl.
