I'm getting a 360 at the start of next year. After they put the new chip in it.

Uses less power so runs cooler and therefore quieter.

it's called a 360 because the manufacturer ships it to you, then you ship it back to the manufacturer.

and so the cycle continues :)

No way dude, 1.5 years is enough for me.

I came to a realisation that WoW is a massive life sucker. It ruined my relationships, work life, my motivation. It killed off a lot of things.

I'm slowly getting back into the game of life; mainly for the sake of my mental and physical health.

Also the fact that now Blizz has balanced everything out to make everyone happy is just a pain in the ass :P

I weighed up alot of things during my gaming time. I came to the conclusion i'd rather have an epic life, than a virtual epic life.

After watching that South Park episode it kinda reinforced my thinking about the whole MMORPG culture and influence on people's lives. Cartman in a way is teaching us vital life skills :)

yeh, well definitely if it impacts your life that heavily then stopping sounds like the best thing you could do.

still, bc looks awesome :P

ill definitely be playing - but same as i do now, pvping or maybe doing a raid or two a few hours a week at times when otherwise id be watching tv or playing xbox.

i get what you mean about ruining relationships etc - but as soon as you realise that there are plenty of other things in life that are more fun or important than pwning some dude in AB with shadow lazors (although admittedly that is pretty fun) its easy to switch the pc off and do something else. i dunno, its a shame its so easy to get sucked in cos it makes so many people look at online gaming as a negative thing when its just another pastime.

look, there's nothing wrong with MMORPG's in general. I agree they are a really good pass-time and can be really fun -- building up something from nothing.

It just becomes wrong when there is too much of an influence in your life that you can't think of doing the basics in life; where anything else besides having a +2 dps, uber equipment, and being able to raid every other half-day just feels wrong to me.

It got to the stage where I just had to realign a few life goals, and WoW wasn't in the picture in the forseeable future. It just feels empty winning at something, when I know at some conscious level that I need to do more in this world than play a virtual game.

Not to say that it's a shit game. I probably see it as a passing fad now, and i'm really glad I was a part of it for a time. I'm sure BC will do well.

If I win tattslotto there might be a second coming :)

I find if amazing that compluter game can do that to rational and intelligent people. But my old flatmate was terrible, he would even lie about how much WoW he was playing.... He was always so "busy", which was his reason for not doing heaps of stuff. Busy playing WoW was more close to the point. His character has finally clocked level 60 now, so I think he's gunna give up.

He even stopped seeing this rad chick because he wanted more time to play WoW.... I teased him about dumping his GF for a computer game and he got all defensive and shit.... LOL I was only joking around, turns out I was right

It is probably more the escapism factor that drew me in. Not having to face certain truths at particular points in my life.

You can't really judge others for their transgressions. [that goes for you too Steve. I have no idea why you'd LOL[\i] a topic loosely related to the thread even if it's a little OT of something that would discuss harsh realities people face all the time in their lives especially in the gaming community.]

I think smart people need to learn harsh realities sometimes to snap them back to their potential. And good friends is about having people around you that respect you, for you, no matter what.

Xbox 360 Breaks Australian Hardware, Software Sales Records

Xbox 360 Breaks Australian Hardware, Software Sales Records Microsoft has revealed that the Xbox 360 has become the fastest selling video game console in Australia, having sold more than 100,000 units since its launch seven months ago. Previously the record was held by Sony's PlayStation 2, which sold 78,000 units in its first seven months of sale.

After considerable delay, brought on by global shortages of the Xbox 360 hardware, the Australian launch of the Xbox 360 did not take place until March 23rd of this year. Following this, however, over 30,000 units were sold in its first four days alone.

In addition, software sales for the Xbox 360 have set a similar record, with 400,000 games for the console sold in the country since launch according to data compiled by market research firm GfK, compared to 190,000 games sold for the PlayStation 2 in the same period following its launch.

The news builds upon Microsoft's lead within the next-generation console marketplace, a head start that looks to continue to grow in the face of relaxed competition from Sony. The electronics giant announced in September that it would delay the release of the PlayStation 3 in Australia and the PAL territories of Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and Africa until March 2007.

David McLean, regional director for Xbox Australia and New Zealand, commented, “Xbox 360 has taken off in Australia demonstrating that the game has changed and consumers are ready for the next-generation of gaming now. Xbox 360 provides amazing value for the whole family and with the biggest line-up of next-generation games and accessories, we are confident that there will be lots of Xbox 360s sitting under Christmas trees this year.”

Just had a play on the PS3!

Machine looks very slick and it's quiet! The 360 in comparison is quite noisy.

I played ::

MotorStorm
Resistance - Fall of Man
RidgeRacer
LAIR

I used the motorbike in motorstorm which uses the controllers motion
sensors and works really well. Same with LAIR, which is a dragon flying game. That one is not finished so is a bit rough around the edges but looks quite promising.

RidgeRacer hasn't changed much.. just upped the detail. The basic mechanics are still the same.

Only played a little of Resistance, which could be described as half Call of Duty 2 and half Halo. I love my first person shooters and this one looks good but at the moment nothing can compare to Gears of War on the Xbox360. That game is the nuts.

None of these games make me want to purchase a ps3 though.

Merrill Lynch: Xbox 360 To Win Next-Gen Battle Through 2011

A new report from Japanese market analysts at financial firm Merrill Lynch has predicted that Microsoft's Xbox 360 will gain the greatest worldwide market share of the next-gen consoles through 2011, with PS3 and Wii marginally trailing.

According to an International Business Times report citing Yoshiyuki Kinoshita, research analyst for Merrill Lynch, the Tokyo-based division for the financial giant has predicted: "The winner in the next-generation console battle is likely to be the Xbox 360, which is the leader in North America, the world’s biggest market."

In addition, Kinoshita's research note revealed: "We forecast respective market shares [in March 2011] of Xbox 360 [at] 39 percent, PS3 [at] 34 percent and Wii [at] 27 percent, thus overturning Sony’s domination of the market with its PS2-based share of 69 percent, and doubling Microsoft and Nintendo’s respective market shares."

Kinoshita clearly believes that no one company will dominate all territories however, suggesting that Sony will still have 57% of the console market share in Japan by that date, with Nintendo's Wii at 39% and an unspecified small percentage for the Xbox 360.

However, it is his prediction for the North America market that is most startling and perhaps debatable, with his suggestion Microsoft will have 50% market share by 2011, of while the PlayStation 3 has just 27% and the Nintendo Wii 23%.

Xbox 360 vs PS3 - Graphics Comparison

We expected the PlayStation 3 to ship with several games that first appeared on the Xbox 360, similar to how the Xbox 360 had a lot of Xbox ports at launch. And the PS3 did indeed arrive with a good number of games that originally shipped for the Xbox 360. This gave us the perfect opportunity to compare the graphics on both systems with several cross-platform games. You'd think that the PS3 versions would be exactly the same or slightly superior to the Xbox 360 versions, since many of these games appeared on the 360 months ago, but it seems like developers didn't use the extra time to polish up the graphics for the PS3. We found that the Xbox 360 actually had better graphics in the majority of the games we compared.

word, its been full of problems and is way expensive. but still has some fucking rad features, im pretty keen to get linux running on the thing.

cant believe we have to wait till fucking march though. even then it will be hard to get one at launch.

gears of war is making me seriously tempted to purchase a 360. i thought i would be able to hold out but i need something for the holidays!
