yeah broke the lock :( from our porch  don't know how they got passed the gate to get onto the porch in the first place but they did :?

they didn't take the bike i think that you're thinking of (the one he shipped from amsterdam), he would be FREAKING out if they took that one as insurance just would not be able to replace.

they took his mountain bike that i got him for his 30th. grrrr. at least insurance payment will be able to get him a very similar one...

might have to take some extra precautions from now on... :(

sorry to hear about that Friday.

out of interest, what sort of lock was on the bike?? Was it a D-Lock ??

Not everyone knows this, but you can actually open d-locks with the end of a bic pen, or similar.
It was proven on a top of the range kryptonite lock, im sure they would have fixed that by now.

not sure what type of lock he had on that one... i have one of the coil kinda ones on my bike.

from now on they're going down the side of the house where it's totally secure from the street. we haven't kept them there before because it's not undercover but i think we need to get some tarp or something up and keep them down there.

If you have to lock your bike up (yay for garages), good advice I've been given is to use two different sorts of lock. They're all breakable, but the different types need different tools and it's unlikely someone will be carrying both.

Oh yeah, and normal coil locks don't do much. Go the armour-plated, motorbike ones :smt023

yeah i reckon we need to invest in a couple of new good locks...

couldn't believe it when i realised. i opened the blinds in the morning and looked out and immediately noticed the gate was ajar. looked over to where the bikes are and sure enough one of them was missing. boo :(

Sledgehammer for D-Locks

The armouring on the cable-style locks is handy, coz you need an extra set of small cutters before you can even get the bolt cutters in.

Just have a chat to anyone who works in a decent bike shop - knowledgeable and devious :smt023

GOTD: I hate to say it but my family....

TOTALLY wasted my Sunday catching up with them for D-Day. They are constantly ridding our arse that we live Northside - hey you know what why the fark can't you move north instead of hassling me about where we live EVERY TIME we are over there. Stop talking over me, and just cause M and I do not have kids, doesn't make us lesser people.... I just am over the whole lot of them, and think some well timed distance from us is required i was so flat when i got home i just wanted to cry.... Damn families....

yeah, knowing that we have insurance with a reasonable excess make it a little easier to take...

bummer they don't make the one he has anymore though. he doesn't like the 2008 model as much but ah well... it's something at least.
