So I'm opening up for Chris Rock...

Post by obliveus »

Ever get a strange email from someone you haven't talked to in years?

Well, I did...last night. An old promoter who I worked for back in 2003 is touring Chris Rock for his No Apologies tour. Tomorrow he's at Vodaphone (or whatever it's called now) and next weekend he's at Hamer Hall for two nights. Chris Rock wanted a DJ to open proceedings with some funk, soul, hiphop and "accessable" tuneage. Said old promoter emailed me last night for the first time in years and asked if I'd do the gigs, cuz she knows that's what I play. So there ya go...

I'm bringin the camera...wish I had one of those "Play Some Breaks" shirts...

Still expecting a call to say it's all called off or something. If it does happen, I can hang up the recs and look back and say..."How much for one rib?"

:D

Are you trying to imply that Madonna, Bros and Chisel should not be in effect?

Nah, I'm just bringin the bag I was already bringin to Dirty Secrets and South Paw. Motown n hiphop is what they want the most, so yeah...

I reckon a dubstep set would actually be funnier than the man himself.

So it wasn't exactly a broom closet, but it was nowhere near the stage (like I thought). I played on a seperate mini-stage in the front foyer of Hisense (no longer Vodaphone) Arena as people walked in...off Punt Road. Great equipment though, unlike what I thought. Tour manager (who's from the states, as well), ticketing staff and security all seemed to enjoy tuneage. My backstage area was right next to his area though, but I didn't see him cuz I couldn't hang around or anything. Scored free tix for my wife n friend...YES! Show was funny as, she tells me (like I knew it would be). Looking forward to seeing it next Sunday at Hamer Hall.

Do you reckon I can now claim to be his official Melbourne tour DJ?

"Howbout a sip for 15 cents?"

"My cups cost more than 15 cents."

"Ok, fuck the cup, just pour it into my hands for a dime."

I need a massive 'Play Some Breaks' shirt to wear this weekend. Between the two nights, I WILL have a picture taken with the man. Even if it lands me in jail.

Bigups last night OB1... Very, very funny night... Chris Rock and his support comic (can't recall the name) were both very, very good - as to be expected.

Goodtimes.
