I do hope by technical, you're referring to special effects, CGI etc...

Coz I'd hardly call it a movie masterpiece.

In the context of other disaster or sci fi movies - I think it is!

Interesting comment...

It's all subjective I guess.

I thought it was pretty ordinary, unbelievable and the trailers were better than the movie.

Then again, I'm not a big sci-fi type person.

Sometimes you just dont like a movie, its no big deal. :)

I found it a lot better than I expected and it goes straight into my sci fi hall of fame alongside 2001, Sunshine, Alien, ET, Close Encounters, Cocoon, Event Horizon, Solaris et al.

Isn't it funny how much preconceptions can influence a movie?

I had high hopes for Cloverfield, and was dissapointed.

I find it's always better to expect not much to enjoy a film - and it's always best to know nothing about the movie (other than historical facts if they apply) to be as objective as possible.

Especially with Cloverfield.. if you have any previous knowledge at all it really ruins the experience.

Watched Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle for the first time last night. Actually quite enjoyed it, wasn't truly expecting to. Dunno why I was avoiding it...maybe it's the big titted chick on the back of the DVD covering her nipples with White Castle Burgers

Star Wars: The Clone Wars has debuted in the US... the series seems a hell of a lot better than the awful movie that was released a few months ago.

Anyone seen an aussie independant called Noise? I highly recommend! (In my top 10)

Noise:
The community reels after an incident on a suburban train. A young cop, beset with doubt and afflicted with tinnitus, is pitched into the chaos that follows this tragic event. He struggles to clear the noises in his head while all around him deal with the after burn of the crime

It's pretty heavy but very funny, made last year.

I watched part of Noise accidently. Been meaning to watch it, and it come on tele the other night. Took me a few minutes to work out why the sound was weird then remembered that I was intrigued by the idea of a film with a soundtrack featuring the noises that Tinitus causes. Will watch the whole thing some day though.

HAd the jmisfirtune of wasting part of my life watching captive, started off wel but descended into crap with 40 minutes, that's abotu when I fell asleep and by all accoutns I didn't miss anythign except the titles at the end.

oh.... well i thought it was boring and incoherent... I got the impression from the previews it would be some cool time film like orlando where they are immortal and he has to save her but it's just some guys story paralleling a book and it seemed over dramatised. Don't get me wrong I loooove emotional tragic romances but I got this through a link on IMDB from the Solaris page, and that being one of my favs I expected it to be a little bit better but it had nothing against it. Anyway... if you like it that's cool. peace.

Saw Love Guru the other day... "In to me I see"? I lolled, but kinda trash, or I'm just not impressed as easily as I should be... I liked the Morgan Freeman voice over machine though, that was cool.

Really looking forward to seeing Choke. It's written by Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club). I've read the book of choke and it was awesome! I actually bought it which is a rare thing for me.

Anyone seen this yet?

Sporadically tuned in and out of "Across The Universe:.
Featured tunes by The Beatles but sung in character by the cast as part of the movie dialogue. Well made film, interesting interpretations of the classics and some tripped out scenes.

didnt find him annoying so much as, i dont know - a sort of average not particularly interesting guy. which set things up nicely - not a hero nor anti-hero

Picked up Death Proof on DVD the other week. It's just as good the second time as it was the first. Freakin awesome movie!! Bit disappointed with the DVD release and a few of the out takes tho - anyone notice that you didnt get to see Zoe do the massive dive into the bushes after they crash? Aside from that, was pretty happy to see the lap dance was included on it after it being cut out on the cinema release (anyone manage to catch Grindhouse at the Astor?). Anyone who's a fan of Tarantino MUST see this movie. Easily up there with his finest work!

So anyway last night I'm in the city and there are no video hire places in the city, so instead I walk into "dirt cheap DVD's" at the bottom of the Sofitel and end up buying a double DVD - Dare Devil - The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - for $10. I figured that $10 is about what you pay to hire two new releases so it was a good deal as I ended up owning them. Never once did I ever cast a thought that I had not seen these movies up until this point because I had no desire to, and furthermore had never purchased them outright because I never really wanted to own them.

I semi watched Dare Devil last night. I say semi watched because I turned it off halfway through. This has to be, without a doubt, one of the most useless pieces of junk garbage bullshit to ever be produced. The fact that it stars two of my most hated hollywood stars, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, helped push it from extremley crap well into the realms of total universal fail.

The acting of Affleck and Garner is woeful. disgraceful. unbelievably terrible. the fight scenes are just horrible, who ever trained Affleck and Garner (assuming that someone did) did a shit shit job, because it looks like two kids play fighting. Hopeless.

The story is ghey, the camera work stupid, the dialogue nasueating, and everything about this movie not only made me regret purchasing it, but also getting out of bed in the morning, and even being born. This movie deserves to be destroyed. It must be destroyed. Every copy of it should be tracked down and burnt.

Don't hire this movie. Don't buy this movie. Don't watch this movie. Don't allow others to watch this movie. If you become aware of someone who has watched this movie, counsel them, reason with them, threaten them - whatever - but ensure they never watch it again.
