Spoonbill, SCS, Paul Abad, Interpulse & more ~Sept 05~

Post by vagabond »

Vagabond Forest is thrilled to announce what will (hopefully) be the first of a series of events designed to raise awareness of and money for those who valiantly defend our old growth forests.Vagabond Forest is a collective of artists donating their time and energy to support the souls who support Mother Earth.

SPOONBILL
(Omlette)

Requiring almost no introduction, Jim Moynihan is the ultimate sound artist. Spoonbill began, as is often the case with birds of play, in the bush. Back then, though, he hadn’t grown his plumage. What he did have, however, was a natural ear for rhythm, sound and vibe, playing kit to audiences in pubs some time before the law recognised him as a legal punter. Since the Spoon conception, he has played countless live shows (and birds have a lot of feathers to count with) across the globe, from California’s Symbiosis Festival (2005, 06, 07) to Nevada’s infamous Burningman Festival (2005 & 07), Fusion festival 08 in germany & the Glade Festival in the UK (2007, 08). In that time he has enjoyed supporting and playing alongside some of the best: Amon Tobin, Tipper, Kid Koala and OTT.

After nearly two years of questing through the audio underworld, wrestling crocodile-headed samplers and taming fire-breathing speaker stacks, Spoonbill has returned to the earth's surface. His message: Zoomorphic, a shapeshifting sonic celebration of Spoonbillism. Zoomorphic is set to earn Australia's most unique aural oracle thousands of fresh converts across the globe.

SUN CONTROL SPECIES (Iboga, Zenon)

Another artist requiring almost no introduction is Sun Control Species. Drew has been galvanising dancefloors in Australia, Europe and South America for many years always keeping his sound fresh and phat. With releases on Iboga, Zenon, Open, Greenant and too many more to name it is no wonder controlling the planets

PAUL ABAD (Open)

Paul Abad is a dj, promoter, producer, visual artist and community activator based in South East Queensland, Australia. He has been part of the local music scene since 1998 and is now a regular on the east coast festival circuit. The width of his experience sees him play everything from outdoor festivals to experimental/sound art gigs to warehouse breaks/glitch nights.

After years of exploring a variety of electronic genres in his sets, leaving a trail of wide-opened minds and ears behind him, Paul has shifted his focus to exploring the middle ground of minimal, tribal techno and progressive, and has quickly positioned himself as one of the leading exponents of this sound in Australia.

INTERPULSE (Open)

Based in Melbourne, Richard Hinkson, Interpulse, has been composing and performing music for over 20 years, and producing electronica for over 15 years. Also known for his 8 years with very successful live tribal trance duo Mantrix, Richie has played at nearly every major Australian outdoor festival. The fresh Interpulse sound is focused on uplifting journeys through deep progressive music, combining melodic atmospheres with driving techno basslines and layered tribal percussions - all wound together with a distinct Australian outdoor festival vibe and strong dancefloor focus.

Tasmania is home to the tallest hardwood trees on earth. These ancient forests are some of the most carbon dense in the world and are constantly under threat from a logging industry that exports more than double the amount of woodchip than mainland Australia. Pristine forest ecosystems of the Weld, Styx, Middle Huon, Upper Florentine valleys and more are cleared at a rate of 15,000 hectares per year. Gunns Ltd's proposed world's largest pulp mill now places even greater pressure on one of the world's last great tracts of temperate climate forest wilderness.

Our eternal gratitude, respect and full support goes to the brave "treedom fighters" doing all they can to bring an end to this climate crime.

Visit http://www.stillwildstillthreatened.org for more information about Tasmania's frontline forest defenders. Visit http://www.wilderness.org.au for information on Gunns' pulp mill and http://www.geco.org.au for information about Victoria's threatened wilderness.

Also welcomed to the lineup:

MOTIVE
(Open/Zenon)
An integral part of the Australian progressive label Open Records, his DJ sets incorporate the deep essence of the progressive techno sound, searching for a massive vibe but with an emotive and dance floor focus. It is this direction that saw him welcomed into the Open Records family in 2005. He has now featured at countless festivals and parties across Australia performing a mix of progressive house/techno/minimal and has supported the likes of Minilogue/Son Kite, Antix, Vibrasphere, Krumelur, Beat Bizarre, Perfect Stranger and Behind Blue Eyes. As a step forward Motive has now moved his production focus to a new level, with tracks coming up for release on both Open Records and Zenon Records.
