I like grime and the UK sound - as long as it is polished. Can't stand that stuff that sounds like 20 dudes in a radio studio shouting out over the top of each other. That said I still listen to the Aim High mixes - some raw shit on there, but it is finished.

Lads keep on pushing - something gotta give. Keeps on getting better and now ain't half bad. Acclaim called it Australia's first grime release - true?

one of the things i love about grime is the rawness ... there's a certain hype you get with 20 guys shouting into a mic on a shit pirate that you just don't get listening to an overly polished studio tune.

Been listening to Brother Ali the last week, loving it. Interesting individual he is, a Somalian Albino. Talks a lot about not being a particular race cos its all irrelevant anyway. 8)

Wish I knew the right words to use to contribute to this thread, i just make them up to be honest. So for my word, 'warm' hip hop i think is what i like.... i think :?

Im a recent Hip hop convert... had access to pretty ordinary stuff, so used to think it was all about rapping over a boring beat about chicks with big tits and having lots of guns  certainly is a hell of a lot more than that ive luckily found out. Needs to have quality music for me to like it as well as decent lyrics.

My faves at the moment:

Brother Ali
Hilltops (was soooo slow getting into these guys, but got there eventually )
Horror show
Always love J5, want more that sounds like they do.
some of People under the Stairs stuff
Talib Kwelli
Jean Gray

I think Urthboy might be my next purchase.

And will definetly make sure i read the Inpress article too! :smt003

Never was a fan, except for the trip-hop styles. Getting more of an appreciation over the last couple of years but similar to the dnb mc, I often want the rapper to shut-up so I can better hear the beats. The call and response thing at live shows is really annoying too, IMO - I will "make some noise" if you impress me, mother fucker, not just because you tell me to.

Have to agree with Lephrenic: the cool stuff out there tends to be in the "not really hip-hop" category.

I watched this interview with him on some US tv show and his knowledge is so intense it made me wish there were more ppl like him in the world!

When asked why he had never taken a record contract he replied "Record contracts are bascially a loan with a stupid amount of interest and I make alot more money being independent."

Absolute sage words.

Home from Afghanistan...

As many of you already know I have recently returned from a successful mission out in Afghanistan to complete the promise I gave when I released “The 3rd World” album. In 2008 I launched The Green Light Project where I promised I would lend my undying and relentless support to a particular human rights organization. I am a man of my word, and on this occasion the people who captured my imagination and inspired this chapter of my struggle in life was Omeid International http://www.Omeid.org
