such a rad flick. anything with Beat Takeshi is rad.
.
+1.
The book Battle Royale is based on is significantly more fucked up than the movie could ever be, there's only so much you can go into detail about schoolchildren in a movie. I think a mate still has my copy.
Don't bother with Battle Royale II it's fucking shit.
i cried my eyes out! OMG so sad to see anyone go through that (lost a VERY close Uncle who struggled for years and years and years) but to see young kiddies, ARGH..
i don't even know why you'd watch something like that tbh.
they seem to be designed purely to tug at the heart strings and what is it for exactly, other than watching these poor mites suffer? or is it for the "courage and bravery" they apparently display? i dunno - call me cynical, but those shows seem a little voyeristic imo.
i couldn't put myself through it. i completely lose it watching down syndrome kids.
Just to see what they do go through babe, you can't say it is more voyerisitc than say 99% of doco's, etc etc that are out there, they all aimed at giving a window into others lives babe....
All doco's invite camera's in like they did, it is not a weekly show honey, was a once off.... so not like those Royla Hospital Shows that are on week in week out...

YES! Am in Japan now and was about to post, now i know why all the children are so polite and goto school on Saturdays haha, still need to read the book though
Enjoyed it, thought it was a solid homage to the original, thought Lawrence Fishburne was largely useless in it, thought that there was a moment that would've gotten awards if a fart noise had been added in there.

the manga series is pretty gruesome too
i didn't mind br2, of course its inferior but imo its still worth watching. takeshi kitano is awesome.
not a bad director too even his early stuff.
one of my fav movies ever is Scene By The Sea - about a deaf surfie. been on sbs a number of times and still got a copy somewhere
RoboGeisha is the shittest thing i've ever seen. It wasn't even shit enough to be rad. It ended up like mighty morphin power rangers! The main "actress" is hot though.

started watching Monsters v Aliens last night. liking so far, have about 1/2 an hour or so left cos i fell asleep in front of the heater opppss. not the movies fault mind you, very entertaining, was just tired
new Karate Kid was good film. beautifully shot, beijing looks amazing. Jaden Smith is very cute as well. bless.
watched Franklyn as well which was ace. the missus didn't like it, was too obscure but the final scene in the film takes place in the same restaurant in shoreditch that we had our wedding reception.
Watched 'Book of Eli' last night. A heap more violent then what I was expecting. But overall didn't really enjoy it that much.
The twist at the end was good and I liked the take on the whole 'end of days' thing they had going, but other then that it was really bland.
Think mad max meets the road.
been catching up on some movies i haven't watched in ages
Kill Bill 1 and 2
50 first dates
Lake Placid
Garden State
watched The September Issue, story about Vogue and Anna Wintour. Man oh man she is one tough cookie, but definitely nicer than what The Devil Wears Prada gave the impression of. Grace the Photo Editor or whatever she is, does amazing set ups for shots, could not get over how amazing they were. inspiring
saw brothers on the weekend- that newish one with jake gyllenhall, natalie portman and tobey maguire. really really good although some quite harrowing scenes and subject matter
recommend seeing this one
and also has to be said jake gyllenhall is pretty raowww

I agree was a bit of a let down. The sepia tones throughout didn't help dispel the feeling it was shot on a very low budget.
Pitch Black was shot in a similar way and that is an awesome movie!!
i watched 'inception' last night. worth seeing in imax. it went about 40 mins too long, but apart from that it was pretty good. just way too much 'spell it out for the audience' style stuff, especially after the 1 hr mark.

Inception... what an amazing film. I went back in my mind and tried to pick another film that I would watch over and over again for pure style and depth and could only come up with Blade Runner.
The best film I have seen in years. It demands a second viewing. The critics who pan it for being overly complex need to watch it again.
Original concept, great acting, stunning visuals and setpieces, masterful weaving of narrative.

I could go on nd on about why I love this movie, but i'd be here all night. Just simply the best movie i've seen in years.
I liked it quite a lot. Wasn't blown away, perhaps my expectations were too high. Didn't find the plot as intriguiing as I hoped, and found the acting and dialogue (apart from caine) a bit remote / script reading-y
great visual concepts though, loved the hotel stuff
