The most classic Hip Hop tune of all time IS...

Post by obliveus »

Probably been done already, but I couldn't find it. Just want to know what everyone considers to be the most classic tune and why. The one you'd take to a deserted island. It's based on personal opinion, so no baggin anyone's choice or I'll have my emoticon robot open a can of whoop ass...

:smt032

The most classic Hip Hop tune of all time IS...

"Check The Rhyme" - A Tribe Called Quest

Why?

I still remember Fab 5 Freddy plugging this on "Yo MTV Raps" back in the day. First hip hop record I ever bought. Then went backwards and searched out everyone else, then forwards to get all the newer stuff. Still have the same copy I bought about 15 years ago. Damn, do I feel old now.

I got this cheesy rap cd really cheap from JB ages ago entitled:

No.1 Rap Hits

I know we mean hip hop but here's some of the tracklist to get some headz ticking:

CD1
Africa Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force - Planet Rock
Whodini - Magic's Wand
Run DMC - King Of Rock - (I personally prefer Run's House)
De La Soul - Me Myself & I
BDP - My Philosophy
ATCQ - Scenario (choon)
Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince - Summertime (lolz)
Digital Underground - Humpty Dance

CD2
Kid 'N' Play - Last Night
Whodini - Freaks Come Out At Night
Naughty By Nature - O.P.P
Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise
House Of Pain - Jump Around
Run DMC - Walk This Way

More contenders:
Grandmaster Flash & Furious 5 - The Message
Sugarhill Gang - Rappers Delight
Ice Cube - Today Was A Good Day
Notorious B.I.G - Going Back To Cali
2PAC - California
Dr. Dre - Anything from the Chronic L.P

That doesn't sound that cheezy to me. You just painted the picture of my Year 8 and Year 9 years perfectly.

i cant break it down to just one..a few of my all timers are:

geto boys "mind playing tricks on me"
pete rock and CL smooth "T.R.O.Y."
kool G rap "brother on the run" (trackmasters remix)
nas "new york state of mind"
rakim - pretty much anything but my favourite would be "know the ledge" or "follow the leader"

Way too hard!

Beastie Boys - Shake Your Rump
De La Soul - A Roller Skating Jam Named Saturdays
A Tribe Called Quest - Electric Relaxation
Eric B & Rakim - Paid In Full
Naughty By Nature - OPP

I could go on for ever...

My favourite hip hop album is still Black Sheep - A Wolf In Sheeps Clothing. Dres is one of the most under-rated MC's in hip hop, dope lyrics and smooth delivery. So many memories...

totally

whicka -neighbours

Now interviewers turn away
who wants to be covered in spray
talking to me for more than an hour
is equivalent to an April shower
its tough <tough> tougher than tough
its worse than benny hill
and thats bad enough
something must be wrong with your vocal technique
when your twelve inch mix stretched out for a week
I was rappin in a club the other night
when nothin I said was coming out right
the crowd got angry and this one man
he was gonna throw a bottle
he was gonna chuck a can, chuck a can, chucka chucka chucka
He's climbing in your windows, he's snatching your people up.

That's the whole point of the thread. If you had to, but thank god you dont, what would be the ONE track that you'd bring on the island. I know a few tracks that I always seem to remember you playin, pick one and back it up, homeboy!
