wasnt it good?youthful_implants wrote:great movie. dark.mrj wrote:watched Animal Kingdom last night. bloody brilliant.
Absolute pearler of an aussie cast including Ben Mendhelson, Joel Edgerton and Guy Pearce. Great story in the way an aussie crime movie only can be, very hello australia in the dialogue had me laughing inapporiately in a couple of spots. Gets quite dark in spots.
highly recommend everyone have a watch was totally rad.
aroes - really? no likey? even mila and natalie secks scene?

This.
Took way too long for anything to happen and the fact everything was so inconlusive just pissed me right off.
Overrated lesbian scene too.

Re: The Movie/Film/DVD thread...
I think a number of movies recently have been significantly overrated and somewhat boring.
- True Grit: not a great deal happened other than a little chick went on a horse ride. Yeah the dialogue was cool but that is about it.
- The fighter: predictable story of some poor kid that rises up to be champion. Oh and nothing happened in the movie.
- Black Swan: not much really happened.
- Hurt locker: slow, boring, patriotic American crap.
What is going, really? Movies seem to be getting rave reviews for being nothing other than slow and boring.

Re: The Movie/Film/DVD thread...
I think it depends on the subject matter. I mean some films just dont appeal to some people doesn't matter how good they are. For me a good movie is not about stuff happening in a spoon fed way. I think a good movie should be thought provoking, have interesting characters and dialogue and tell a story in a convincing format.kronz wrote: Movies seem to be getting rave reviews for being nothing other than slow and boring.
So many movies fail these criteria it makes you wonder what utter fuckheads are producing them. There has been a really positive move back towards character driven movies this and last year. The Kings Speech is a good example I reckon. A properly intelligent film.
I also recklon there is a lot of competition from TV drama which is, IMO, more rewarding than most movies anyway and solid independent film-makers.
Having said all that, most of my favourite movies in the last 6 months have been animated. Toy Story 3, Despicable Me, Metropia, 9 etc.

agree with this and the psychosis comment for Black Swan
if you want spoon fed, stuff happening movies you may as well watch romantic comedies or something similar. Which do have their place i must say, as those movies are great for switching off the brain and world.
Movies like Black Swan make you think and see how someone elses reality is. Inception was another great one for that...oh the layers!
And animated movies rock my world

Re: The Movie/Film/DVD thread...
I'm not interested in Transformers and i don't need to be spoon fed a movie plot, i am just saying that i have found a number of highly rated movies rather dull recently.

When they eventually get around to making a film chronicling my slow mental breakdown, I hope they call it "Spack Attack". tbh.

Haven't really been watching movies for, well, the past 3 years. Recently rewatched Intermission when trawling Netflix and was reminded that it has possibly the most romantic opening scene of any movie, ever...

Rewatched Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon tonight. Fairly thin on plot and character development (which I think may be down to my near inability to follow subtitles), but I forgot how much of a feast for the eyes it is.
