Shapelle

Post by dust »

Ok, so you're all prolly real bored of her by now, but seeing as how the trial is today, I want to know whether people think she is innocent or guilty.

Me - i thought she was innocent till i read the age today and had a good think about it and now I think she might actually have been silly enough to have done it.

Did you know that there were four witnesses who say she tried to stop customs from opening her bag. Why would they lie? What do they have to gain??

What do peeps think?

doesn't matter to me. they're not charging her with being a drug lord, they're charging her for possessing drugs. of that she's guilty.

the only thing that makes me angry about it is the fucking floor to ceiling media coverage. it sux teh rhino balls, imo.

worst thing is it's not over by any means

if she's innocent - there will be an appeal

if she's guilty - there will be an appeal

destined to go on until 2006.

i think she did it. i don't have much faith in the govt, but have enough that if she was actually screwed and the drugs were planted that they'd help ... there has to be a reason why they've removed themselves from this.

Guilty or not, the thing that really confuses and pisses me off is that Shapelle is going to get the death sentence, yet Abu Bakar Basheer gets life for orchestrating the deliberate slaughter of hundreds of innocent people and further crippling the local economy through destroying the tourism sector.

It's a fucked situation.

corby isn't getting the death sentence - i thought that was ruled out ages ago.

her issue is spending the next 25 years in a bali prison - not being topped. i think at this point she'd prefer to die.

the whole thing is such a circus - that dodgy phone salesman funding her trial ... the whole media carry-on courtesy of channel 9 ... she's just one of many Australian citizens in an Indo jail ... not sure why she's gotten so much attention.

because stuff that isn't "fair" gets ratings and sells papers.

and it saves the age from reporting on anything relevant.

Channel 9's 60 minutes have exclusive media rights to her family, other family members have deals with different stations.

I hate the Australian media!!

Read the focus section in the age, its pretty interesting.

maybe because there are so many holes in the prosecutions argument. nothing is ever what it is on face value. and given the circumstances about the baggage handlers here it's a bit suss...just a tad that a random girl got pinned with an excessive amount of drugs for no real reason. She should've got caught in sydney and brisbane airports if she did it. case closed. I doubt our airlines are inept given the post 9-11 scenario worldwide. so wtf...

I dunno either way, but the argument that is 'she can't be guilty, no one's stupid enough to smuggle pot like that, she wouldn't be that dumb', is bollocks, maybe she is that dumb, fuck, I know people dumber than that, stupidity is everywhere lets not forget that.

true, but on face value. is it coincedance that after schapelle got caught all this baggage handling stuff came out? or is it all just a media conspiracy ;)

Either way I guess Aussies feel the indo's haven't done enough in a prudent fashion to determine without a shadow of a doubt that the drugs bag belonged to her. Evidence is a hell of a thing.

Apparently one of the legal points being argued in the trial is that 'knowledge is not a necessary part of possession'.

That is to say that even if she didn't know the drugs were there, it doesn't matter. She was still in possession and therefore guilty.

At least I think that's it.

Hmmm.

Also - why would you take a boogie board when your brother in law runs a boogie board shop over there?

dude that isn't factual at all. she hasn;t been 5 times this year at all ... actually more to the point she's been in jail since October LAST YEAR. And prior to that she'd been twice in 5 years.

I still think she did it though, but yr facts are wrong.

your a racist dick
I wasn't until I saw this verdict.
That is precisely my point.
I'm trying to highlight the negative impact this will have.
My posts were deliberately "over the top"
I don't genuinely feel this, I'm trying to (use myself) to highlight a point.
